Brace for carnage: Karl Urban says Billy Butcher’s terrifying new powers will make him a ruthless force in The Boys Season 5.

The Boys is heading into its endgame, and Karl Urban says Billy Butcher is about to become the most dangerous version of himself we have ever seen. With Homelander effectively running the country and Supes policing the streets, the show is not exactly easing into its final season.

Urban on Season 5: buckle up

In a new interview while promoting The Bluff, Urban teed up a very bloody, very unforgiving final chapter. His takeaway was not subtle:

'This season will shock a lot of people... nobody is safe.'

His The Bluff co-star Priyanka Chopra joked that this sounds like business as usual for The Boys, but Urban doubled down on what makes Butcher different now:

'Butcher this season is just a guided missile, and you better stay out of his way.'

Urban also teased that Butcher is not just stronger; he is sharper. Think maximum force, minimum hesitation.

Quick refresher: Butcher's power curve

  • Season 3: Butcher dabbled with Temp V and blasted eye lasers.
  • Season 4: He took a full dose of Compound V, sprouted chest tentacles, and tore Victoria Newman in half right in front of his own team.

Where we left things

Homelander has seized control of the U.S. government, and Supes now have sweeping authority over law enforcement. That shift turns Butcher's new abilities from a moral headache into a tactical necessity. The Boys are badly outgunned on every front, and Butcher knows it.

Of course, there is a cost. His last tango with Temp V already rattled the team; ripping Newman in half with fresh-from-the-lab appendages is not exactly healing vibes. Expect arguments. Also expect blood early. There is at least one death near the top of the season, and the show has never been shy about keeping the morgue busy.

So who is Butcher now?

Urban describes this Butcher as the most physically overwhelming and the most strategically dialed-in version yet. He is past the line, and that seems to be the point: a single-minded weapon aimed at the Supes who broke the world. If you are wondering whether that makes him a hero or a problem, the answer is probably 'yes.'

The road to the finale

Plot specifics are locked up for now, but the setup is clear: with Homelander and his superpowered enforcers holding the keys to the kingdom, Butcher's enhanced skill set becomes a make-or-break asset. Whether it saves the day or burns everything down with it is the fun part.

The Boys Season 5 kicks off with its first two episodes on Prime Video on April 8, 2026.
