Karl Urban Confirms The Boys Season 5's Most Vicious Twist — Fans Aren't Ready
Brace for carnage: The Boys Season 5 will kill off major characters in its very first episode, Karl Urban revealed at Fan Expo San Francisco.
The Boys is not easing you into its final season. It is apparently grabbing you by the throat in the opening minutes and not letting go. Karl Urban just warned that Season 5 starts swinging hard, and yeah, that means people we know are going to die. Early.
Right out of the gate: bodies will drop
At Fan Expo San Francisco on December 2, 2025, during a panel moderated by ScreenRant's Joe Deckelmeier, Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) told the crowd that the Season 5 premiere kills off major characters. He did not dance around it:
'There are going to be some big hits early on in the very first episode. That is probably what is going to make you realize, Oh, this shit is for real.'
The episode is titled 'Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite' — a wink to the comics and the character Love Sausage from Issue 14. Subtle title, obviously.
The Supernatural reunion (and then some)
Season 5 doubles as a Supernatural meet-up, and not a small one. Jensen Ackles is back as Soldier Boy — this time as a series regular. Jeffrey Dean Morgan returns as Joe Kessler, the vision that Butcher has been arguing with since last season. Creator and showrunner Eric Kripke told TV Insider back in May 2025 that Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins will actually share scenes in the same storyline — their first on-screen crossover since 2020. Urban also teased that there are still a few cameos the show has not announced yet. On top of that, Jim Beaver is in the mix as Robert A. Singer, a cheeky nod to his Bobby Singer days.
Where we pick up
The story picks up six months after the Gen V Season 2 finale. Homelander is now running the United States and has declared martial law. So, happy times.
- Series: The Boys
- Creator/showrunner: Eric Kripke
- Main cast: Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso
- Season count: 4 seasons released; Season 5 upcoming
- Platform: Prime Video
- Season 5 size: 8 episodes, about 60 minutes each (roughly 480 minutes total), per Entertainment Weekly
- Release plan: 3-episode premiere, then weekly drops through 2026
- Endgame: Season 5 is the last chapter of the main story — 40 episodes total across five seasons
- Kripke's plan: He has long said five seasons is the right shape for this tale, comparing it to a five-act structure he learned writing TV
- Franchise future: The universe continues with spinoffs, including the already-renewed Gen V
The endgame: Butcher vs. Homelander
All roads lead to the showdown that has been brewing since day one. Butcher is still estranged from the team and sitting on the Supe-killing virus he stole in Season 4. He is not thinking small — his mission is to wipe out every Supe, period. Homelander, meanwhile, has the country, the power, and zero guardrails. To borrow Urban's point, anyone could be next.
Final word (for now)
Kripke has promised on Instagram that the ending goes out with a bang. Given the premiere is apparently a massacre, that tracks.
Who do you think does not make it out of the first episode? And which Supernatural cameo are you most excited to see actually share scenes again?
The Boys Seasons 1–4 are streaming now on Prime Video.
