Just How Old Are Mary and George Exactly in Young Sheldon?
Fans of the series are still unsure about the age of Sheldon's parents.
The Big Bang Theory became one of the defining sitcoms of the 21st century, proving that even nerds can be likable and beloved characters in comedy series and paving the way for many other shows to emerge in recent years.
While all of the hit series' characters were unique and very well-written, it was Sheldon Cooper who became a perennial fan favorite, so it was only a matter of time before CBS decided to release a spin-off show about his younger years.
And to every fan's delight, Young Sheldon turned out to be a blast to watch, despite having a few minor deviations from the original series. People have gone head over heels for the new show in large part because it offered them a chance to meet and spend lots of time with Sheldon's perfectly normal, yet quirky family.
Many viewers have come to adore Sheldon's parents, but one question plagues them to this day — how old are Mary and George, actually?
Since Mary constantly complained about being forced to marry George and have a baby at such a young age, fans were convinced that she got pregnant when she was about 18 or 20, but in fact, this is far from the truth. According to the show, Mary was 42 during season five, which means she got pregnant with Georgie when she was 25. It seems that Mary was exaggerating a bit when she said that George forced her into marriage at a very young age.
So, Mary was born in 1950, and George was born in 1944. It's rather difficult to pinpoint their ages in each season, but one thing is for sure — George was only 50 when he died in 1994.
That was the moment when fans mourned together with the family who lost their loving father, and these strong emotions evoked in the audience clearly prove that Young Sheldon was able to really flesh out its characters and differentiate itself from the original series. George and Mary both became loved by viewers, and they are part of the reason the show enjoyed such a big success.
