Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo finally drops a fan-pleasing cameo: grade 2 sorcerer Panda slips back into the action, igniting speculation that more original-series heavyweights are about to follow.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is barely out of the gate and we already got a familiar face peeking in. It’s brief, it’s softer than you might expect, and it’s definitely a signal flare: Panda is back. Kind of.

Panda returns... in plush mode

In Chapter 9 of Modulo, the story makes room for a tiny Panda cameo. That alone is surprising, because the last time we saw the grade 2 sorcerer, he’d lost two of the three cores that power his body, which basically knocked him out of commission. Here, he flickers back to life just long enough to play the world’s friendliest confidant.

First, Panda shows up as a cuddly stand-in who listens to Yuka’s secrets and gossip. Later, he has a low-key chat with the Modulo lead about a school crush. It’s sweet and a little nostalgic, especially if you remember the original manga’s Panda: chill on the surface, absolute monster when he popped Cursed Corpse Jutsu and switched cores. Back then, the transformations gave him a hulking look and serious firepower that turned the tide for other sorcerers.

Here? It’s the gentler version. That tracks with his calm personality, but I won’t lie, a lot of fans were hoping for a louder, teeth-bared re-entry. Maybe this is a tease and the more serious stuff comes later. He’s 'temporarily active' right now, which is a very lore-nerdy way of saying the door is cracked open.

What that cameo likely means for other favorites

If Panda can wander back in, even for a minute, it makes the odds look good for other veterans to poke their heads into Modulo. People are already tossing around names like Yuji and Mahito. Realistically, if a supporting character got the nod, the heavy hitters aren’t out of the question.

Toge and Aoi Todo feel like especially plausible cameos. Sure, given the timeline, they might be older and not in peak fighting shape, but even a limited appearance could add some weight to what Modulo is doing now. The series still needs to live with its new leads front and center — Tsurugi and Yuka — but a strategically placed cameo here and there keeps long-time readers engaged and gives the world a lived-in feel.

The deep-cut context, simplified

If you’re not neck-deep in the lore: Panda’s body runs on three internal 'cores.' He lost two in the original storyline, which is why seeing him move at all in Modulo is a big deal. Add his Cursed Corpse Jutsu to the mix — it’s what lets him shift forms — and you get why the fandom perked up at even a plush-coded reappearance. It’s not his iconic bruiser look, but it’s a meaningful check-in.

I’m curious who Modulo taps next. If Panda’s back, even lightly, the bench is warming up. Who do you want to see stroll in for a quick assist?
