Seven decades after Jujutsu Kaisen ended, Kugisaki Nobara shocks fans with a surprise return in Chapter 13 of spinoff Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo — a brief cameo that drags one of the series’ most tragic moments back into the spotlight.

Well, that was not on my bingo card. Kugisaki Nobara just showed up in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the sequel set way down the timeline from the main series. Chapter 13 drops her in out of nowhere, and yes, it’s the same Nobara. Seventy-ish years later. Wild choice, but it connects to something bigger than a simple cameo.

Quick rewind: Nobara’s last known status

Back in the Shibuya Incident, Nobara took a brutal hit from Mahito and the story basically shut the door on her. For a long time, the assumption was: she’s gone. Then the main manga’s chapter 267 pulled the rug. Nobara was alive and back in the fight, helping Yuji and the rest finally take down Sukuna. The short version: they separated Sukuna from his host and destroyed him for good. That was the wrap on the big bad, and Nobara exited stage left again.

So how old is she in Modulo?

When we first met Nobara, she was 16, running with Megumi and (eventually) Yuji. Modulo is set 68 years after the main story ends, so the math puts her at a minimum of 84 now, likely a bit older depending on exactly when you start the clock. The chapter frames her like someone time has finally caught up with, even if the art keeps things relatively youthful in that shonen way. Don’t let that fool you. The vibe is: she’s still dangerous, and the next chapter could show just how much.

The reveal that actually matters

Nobara’s appearance isn’t just nostalgia bait. It ties Modulo directly back to the original run through Yuji’s situation. She confirms two things at once: Yuji is still around, and that’s not a blessing.

"Yuji is still alive - and that’s his real curse."

It tracks. If he’s stuck living while everyone he loved is long gone, that’s not immortality, that’s a sentence. It makes his grandfather’s old wish sting even more. Remember, the man wanted Yuji to have a good death, surrounded by people who cared about him. That never happened. Yuji kept going, past the point he wanted to, and now he’s basically adrift.

Why Nobara’s return matters beyond the cameo

Dropping her into Modulo this late does two things: it gives us a familiar anchor in a story set decades removed from the original cast, and it tees up the emotional fallout of Yuji’s 'curse' with someone who knew him when it still mattered. If Nobara is here, there’s probably more to say about what happened to Yuji in the gap years, and where this sequel is actually heading. The chapter keeps things close to the chest, but the implications are not subtle.

What to expect next

Fans are already hoping Nobara sticks around long enough to fill in the blanks, and honestly, the bigger hope is that Yuji himself steps back into the frame sooner than later. If Modulo is going to pay off this setup, it kind of has to.
