Josh Radnor's Career Fizzles Out as HIMYM Fans Wonder What Happened to Him
It's not uncommon for an actor to be associated with one highly successful role in their career, which may be both a blessing and a curse preventing them from reaching new creative heights.
While for most of the cast of How I Met Your Mother, the hit series served as a major career breakthrough, turning them into sought-after actors, the sitcom's lead Josh Radnor seems to have completely fallen off the radar after the show ended.
So what happened to the actor who played the hopeless romantic Ted Mosby?
Fans on Reddit wondered why we don't get to see Radnor in other film and TV projects, and one of the commenters shared what they've found out about the actor's life after HIMYM:
'I listen a lot of podcasts in which he basically said that HIMYM gave to him the freedom, from a financial point of view, to wake up in the morning and do whatever he wants to do, and post-HIMYM he is less interested to be in the spotlight, he prefers for instance to stay at home and write songs,' the fan said, explaining Radnor's disappearance from public view.
Of course, portraying the main character in the incredibly successful sitcom, Josh Radnor made millions of dollars. His net worth is estimated to amount to about $30 million, and provided that he doesn't go on wild spending sprees too often, Radnor can certainly afford a comfortable and carefree lifestyle, enjoying the many artistic activities that he does. And he does do lots of things — it's just that he doesn't seek to attract as much public attention as possible to his creative work.
'I always wondered (as many have) what ever happened to Josh Radnor, but he actually has a whole bunch of theatre credits under his belt,' another Redditor shared their surprise. The actor has preferred theater work to film and TV projects, and among other things, Radnor has done a number of Broadway productions.
In fact, Josh is a very versatile person, as he has also tried his hand at writing and directing. His debut was the comedy-drama film Happythankyoumoreplease, which earned him the Audience Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. His second movie, Liberal Arts, premiered at Sundance in 2012.
Most recently, Josh's primary focus has been on music rather than acting or directing. Since 2016, he and musician Ben Lee have been running a joint project, Randor and Lee, and the indie duo released two albums in 2017 and 2020. What's more, Randor also has his own solo album, One More Then I'll Let You Go, released in 2021.
So even though his TV career may be fizzling out, Josh Randor seems to be enjoying his life that's full of creative endeavors and achievement.
