'Mom, I'm gonna be on T.V., and I don't mean when I grow up.'

You'd think that if you had a sibling that made it big, you'd be proud of what they'd achieved, wouldn't you?

But that's not the case for The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki. The Belgian-born actor has two younger siblings – a brother and sister – who say they feel the exact opposite about having a family member in the public eye.

Speaking to Conan O'Brien in 2012, the Leonard Hofstadter actor said, 'I think they're quite embarrassed by my fame.' He went onto describe how believed his brother in particular found acting 'emasculating,' adding, 'half the time I can't really argue that.'

O'Brien then asked what his brother does. And Galecki couldn't have sounded more proud of his younger sibling as he described how he's 'in the auto industry' and is 'a genius (who) can fix anything in your house.'

It's unlikely that his choice of career was a surprise to his family. Born in Limburg to a mortgage consultant mother and a father who was in the US Air Force, the eldest of the three Galecki kids knew from an early age that acting was what he wanted to do with his life.

In fact, he was just 4 years old when he said, 'Mom, I'm gonna be on T.V., and I don't mean when I grow up.' And he was proved right. After making a name for himself in the Chicago theatre scene (by this time the family were living in Oak Park, Illinois) he landed his first movie roles in Time Out for Dad and Murder Ordained, both in 1987. He was 12 at the time.

Two years later he had roles in two Christmas movies – playing Billy Quinn in Prancer and Russell 'Rusty' Griswold in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Remember, he was still only 14 and both his siblings are younger. So, they would have been at just the right age to feel embarrassed about being related to a kid in the movies.

His TV break came in 1990 with main roles in American Dreamer as Danny Nash and the miniseries Blind Faith in which he played John Marshall. His star was now well into its ascendancy.

He went on to appear in shows including Roseanna, My Name is Earl and American Dad before hitting the jackpot when he secured the role of Leonard.

And while his choice of career may be embarrassing for his siblings, he's done ok out of it and now has a net worth of $100 million.
