Joe Bob Unwraps a Cold, Cruel Christmas on Shudder This December
Bundle up: Joe Bob Briggs brings Joe Bob's Cold, Cruel Christmas to Shudder this December, a double feature of snowbound slashers to frost the holidays with blood-red cheer.
Joe Bob Briggs isn’t done stuffing horror into your holiday. After turning late-night creature features into a lifestyle across three decades, he’s back with a new Christmas event that sounds chilly in all the right ways.
What’s happening
Shudder has announced Joe Bob’s Cold, Cruel Christmas, a two-movie special built around snowy slashers and holiday mayhem. It’s a live double feature with Joe Bob and Darcy the Mail Girl doing what they do best: celebrating weird, wonderful horror and dropping more film history than your freshman syllabus ever did.
- Live premiere: Thursday, December 12 at 9pm ET on Shudder TV and the AMC+ livestream (US and Canada)
- On demand: Saturday, December 14
- Movies: As usual, titles stay secret until Joe Bob rolls them out on the night
- Extras: The annual charity drive returns, including an auction of one-of-a-kind items and apparel featuring brand-new artwork by Justin Osbourn
"Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl are once again possessed by the Christmas spirit, hosting a double-feature of snowy slashers for an unholy night full of frozen fear and cold-blooded kills."
The quick refresher (because history matters)
Joe Bob held court for a decade on The Movie Channel’s Joe Bob’s Drive-in Theater, then moved to TNT’s MonsterVision until 2000. After a long drought, Shudder resurrected him in 2018 with The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, which quickly became one of the service’s signature hits. Multiple seasons, themed marathons, and annual holiday specials followed. If you’re new: the format is simple — Joe Bob screens an eclectic horror double feature, digs into the films’ merits, production war stories, and genre context, and sprinkles in more trivia than is probably healthy. Diana Prince co-hosts as Darcy the Mail Girl. The show is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell, and directed by Austin Jennings.
Programming note
This season of The Last Drive-In has been dropping double features on the first Friday of each month. December breaks the pattern: there’s no new episode on the first Friday (the 5th). Joe Bob’s Cold, Cruel Christmas on the 12th is your only fresh dose of Drive-In this month.
My two cents
I’m in for anything Joe Bob, especially when the body count meets black ice. Personally, I’m pulling for Iced to make the cut. If not, I’ll still be there for the charity auction and to see what Justin Osbourn cooked up for the new artwork. See you on the livestream.
