JK Rowling Broke The Only Promise She Gave Daniel Radcliffe
The Harry Potter franchise has played a huge role in modern pop culture, setting new trends for young writers and filmmakers worldwide for years.
It's safe to say that there has never been, and never will be, a fictional universe that comes close to the Wizarding World in terms of fan love and devotion.
While the Harry Potter story has become an important part of the lives of millions of fans, there are those whose careers and personal lives have been most affected.
Aside from author J.K. Rowling, these are, of course, the main stars of the series. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson spent their entire childhoods on the set of the franchise.
Radcliffe, for example, portrayed the beloved protagonist from the age of 11 to 21, which can easily be called the formative years.
Only imagine how hard it was for the cast to say goodbye to the Wizarding World after filming was over! The final movie premiere was an emotional time for both the fans and the people who created it. Some of our readers may remember the amount of tears shed in the theaters. That's why the rumors about the new sequel, which came soon after the premiere, hit like a truck.
Radcliffe recalled to the Irish Examiner that when the rumors reached him, he was shocked at the prospect of playing Harry Potter again. He even texted Rowling to ask if the rumors were true. And the author didn't hesitate to reassure the actor.
'She wrote back that she was so pleased with my performance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 that as a reward, she promised to never write another book about Harry,' Radcliffe said with a laugh.
It was 2011. Though the promise sounded ironclad, every Harry Potter fan knows that the famed author broke it five years later when she allowed The Cursed Child to happen. The play, which takes place 19 years after the story of the seventh book, was co-written by Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany in 2016, and remains a thorn in the side of millions of Wizarding World fans.
Many fans refuse to accept the play as official canon because it ruined and corrupted the beloved characters and shook the foundations and principles of the Wizarding World. The majority of Harry Potter fans agree that it would have been much better if Rowling had kept her promise to Radcliffe.
