Jeremy Renner is aiming for a return: after a salary dispute, the Hawkeye star told The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast that a second season is still on the table.

Hawkeye fans, this one swings a little more optimistic than the last update. Jeremy Renner is now sounding upbeat about a second season after previously saying a salary dispute pushed him out of it. So yes, the arrows might be coming back out of the quiver.

The new note from Renner

On The Playlist's Bingeworthy podcast, Renner said they are actively trying to make Hawkeye Season 2 happen and that he expects to be ready for it physically and otherwise. His tone: confident.

'We got to where we’re trying to do the second season. And I think I’ll get strong enough to be able to do it. And we’ll work it out. It’s gonna be great.'

About that salary standoff

Earlier this year, Renner casually mentioned that a second season was in development, but said he had to pass because of a pay issue. That was a pretty frank bit of behind-the-scenes shop talk and made Season 2 sound shaky. Now he is framing it as something they can and will sort out, which is a notable shift.

If Season 2 happens, what does it look like?

Renner has said the plan was always to keep Hawkeye anchored in New York City during the holidays. Think more Christmas-in-Manhattan energy. He even noted that the city is gorgeous up to Christmas and, after that, kind of bleak. So if they proceed, expect another festive-timed story with Clint and company navigating NYC winter vibes.

Quick refresher on Hawkeye

  • The series premiered in 2021 and starred Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.
  • Created by Jonathan Igla, with episodes directed by Amber Finlayson and Katie Ellwood (aka Bert and Bertie) and Rhys Thomas.
  • It landed well with audiences and critics and brought back Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
  • That Kingpin return paved the way for most of the Daredevil cast to return in Daredevil: Born Again.

Beyond the holiday angle, details on a potential Season 2 are still thin. But Renner sounds like he wants to be there, and that alone is a healthier sign than what we heard earlier this year.
