Jeremy Renner Drops Major Update on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars
Jeremy Renner addresses his Avengers future, weighing in on a possible Hawkeye return for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — slated for December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027.
Quick update from Avengers-land: Jeremy Renner says he is not coming back as Hawkeye for Marvel's next two team-up films, even as the studio gears up for its big multiverse blowouts. And yes, he is well aware Marvel could just pluck another Hawkeye from some alternate corner of reality if they want to.
Renner dropped the news on The Breakfast Club while talking about his recovery from the 2023 snowplow accident. When the conversation turned to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, he made it clear he is sitting these out because he is, in his words, pretty booked elsewhere.
'If they want to do that, they can go ahead. By all means, you can do that. I am pretty busy myself.'
For the timeline: Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
Now, the wild part. Avengers: Doomsday comes from the Endgame duo Joe and Anthony Russo, with Stephen McFeely writing. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the franchise, but not as Tony Stark. He is reportedly stepping into the mask of Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Yep, RDJ as Doom. Chris Hemsworth is back too, alongside a sprawling lineup that is frankly kind of absurd (and designed to melt Hall H):
- Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom
- Chris Hemsworth
- Pedro Pascal
- Vanessa Kirby
- Joseph Quinn
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach
- Paul Rudd
- Sebastian Stan
- Tom Hiddleston
- Anthony Mackie
- Florence Pugh
- Tenoch Huerta Mejia
- Lewis Pullman
- Simu Liu
- David Harbour
- Wyatt Russell
- Hannah John-Kamen
- Letitia Wright
- Winston Duke
- Danny Ramirez
- Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier
- Ian McKellen as Magneto
- Kelsey Grammer as Beast
- Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler
- Rebecca Romijn as Mystique
- James Marsden as Cyclops
- Channing Tatum as Gambit
Marvel leaned into the spectacle with that viral casting announcement video, and Kevin Feige has already said they have not shown the full deck yet. More names are coming. On the rumor front, Doomsday might also rope in Doctor Strange, Deadpool, Peggy Carter, Steve Rogers, and Spider-Man. Emphasis on might.
So, bottom line: do not expect Clint Barton in Doomsday or Secret Wars. If Marvel wants a different Hawkeye via multiverse trickery, Renner is giving them the thumbs-up. Otherwise, he is out, and the roster is already overflowing.
