Jensen Ackles Hints at More Soldier Boy in The Boys Finale
Jensen Ackles is officially back in The Boys universe — and it sounds like he's not just stopping by for another cameo.
Ackles, who joined the Prime Video hit back in Season 3 as the ultra-violent, ultra-patriotic Soldier Boy, made a surprise appearance in the Season 4 finale. Now, he's confirmed he's got a bigger role in the upcoming fifth and final season, set to premiere sometime in 2026.
In a new interview, Ackles revealed that he just wrapped filming on The Boys Season 5:
"I just finished The Boys on Tuesday, [June 10th], and I think I've got all my stuff done. But I don't know. You never know. They might have to bring me back for some other stuff."
Filming for Season 5 started back in November 2024 and is expected to wrap next month. Ackles, who's also been working on the action series Countdown for Prime Video, said the back-to-back schedule didn't faze him — thanks to 15 years of doing 23-episode seasons of Supernatural. Compared to that? This is a vacation.
As for the story, Soldier Boy's comeback isn't just for shock value. According to showrunner Eric Kripke, Season 5 will finally explore the messy "father-son" dynamic between Soldier Boy and Homelander.
"We really hadn't explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy," Kripke said after the Season 4 finale. "There's a lot of material there… how Soldier Boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad. We really wanted to dig into that."
Kripke also made it clear Soldier Boy isn't just there to bond with his homicidal offspring — he still holds a serious grudge against Billy Butcher for that little betrayal back in Season 3:
"Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher… So he's just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the Supes."
And in case anyone was still wondering if Soldier Boy's story is wrapping up with Season 5, Kripke confirmed: nope. Ackles is also lined up to star in Vought Rising, a prequel spinoff that brings back Aya Cash as Stormfront/Liberty.
So while The Boys is set to end in 2026, Soldier Boy's days of punching through walls and screaming about "real men" are far from over.
