Jennifer Lopez returns to thriller mode in Netflix’s The Last Mrs. Parrish, the Liv Constantine bestseller now filming with Oscar winner Robert Zemeckis at the helm — and a tense first look of Lopez has just dropped.

Jennifer Lopez is back in thriller mode, and this one has a deliciously nasty premise: Netflix is turning the bestseller 'The Last Mrs. Parrish' into a movie, with Lopez leading the cast and Robert Zemeckis steering the ship. Filming is underway, and yes, there is already a first-look of JLo on set in Midtown Manhattan.

What is 'The Last Mrs. Parrish' about?

Netflix hasn’t put out an official logline or character breakdown yet, but the film adapts Liv Constantine’s hit novel, which follows Amber Patterson, a striver who decides the fastest way to upgrade her life is to infiltrate the gilded world of Daphne and Jackson Parrish. She cozies up to Daphne, charms Jackson, and sets her sights on becoming the next Mrs. Parrish. Naturally, nothing in that house is as shiny as it looks.

'A skeleton from her past may undermine everything Amber has worked for, and if it’s discovered, her well-laid plan may fall apart.'

One interesting wrinkle: Lopez is playing Daphne Parrish, the wife, not Amber, the con artist. If you’ve read the book, you know why that’s fun casting. Expect perspective games and power shifts.

Who’s making it (and who’s in it)?

Zemeckis — yes, the Oscar-winning director of 'Forrest Gump' and 'Back to the Future' — is directing. The screenplay comes from Andrea Berloff ('Straight Outta Compton') and John Gatins ('Flight'), with Lisa Rubin also contributing. Lopez is producing through Nuyorican Productions alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas; Rubin’s 3dot Productions and Molly Sim’s Something Happy Productions are on board too. The novel’s authors — sisters Lynne and Valerie Constantine, who publish as Liv Constantine — are executive producers, along with Benny Medina and Cortney Baxter for Nuyorican, Jack Rapke, and Derek Hogue. (The casting additions of Debi Mazar and Denis O'Hare were first flagged by Deadline.)

Beyond Lopez, the cast includes Nikolaj Coster-Waldau ('Game of Thrones'), Isabel May ('1883'), Pierson Fode ('The Man From Toronto'), Renata Friedman ('The Patient'), Eduardo Ramos ('21 Bridges'), plus Debi Mazar ('Younger') and Denis O'Hare ('American Horror Story'). Roles for most of the ensemble haven’t been officially disclosed yet.

Where things stand right now

Production was originally slated to begin May 19, 2025, but cameras actually started rolling September 9, 2025, with filming expected to wrap by November. What’s on Netflix shared the first on-set look of Lopez filming in Manhattan on October 14, 2025. The movie is for Netflix, and the current expectation is a release sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.

For context on Lopez’s Netflix run: she led 'The Mother' and 'Atlas' for the streamer, has the rom-com 'Office Romance' in the pipeline, and most recently starred in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' which released on October 10, 2025.

Bottom line: Zemeckis doing a slick, twisty character chess match with JLo as the woman at the center of it all? That has my attention. I’ll update when Netflix finally drops the official logline and character details.
