Jennifer Lawrence Reveals She Hallucinated on the Catching Fire Set
Jennifer Lawrence recalls taking Ambien before a scene for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with Philip Seymour Hoffman, hallucinating on set and leaving Elizabeth Banks upset, in a candid reveal on Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors.
Jennifer Lawrence just told one of those 'how did this even happen' set stories: she accidentally took Ambien before shooting a scene on Catching Fire and started hallucinating. Not great timing when your scene partner is Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The Ambien mix-up
Lawrence dropped the story during a Variety Actors on Actors chat with Leonardo DiCaprio. She said she grabbed the wrong pill in the morning on the Hunger Games: Catching Fire set — Ambien, the sleep med — then had to film a dance sequence with Hoffman. If you remember the movie, that tracks with the party scene where Katniss briefly dances with his character.
'I was hallucinating. Elizabeth Banks got really annoyed with me. Maybe she didn't know that I was on an Ambien.'
Can you blame Banks for being irritated? If she didn't know what was going on, it probably looked like Lawrence was just spacing out on a big day.
From war stories to Scorsese
Lawrence also used the moment to pick DiCaprio's brain about working with Martin Scorsese, since they're both set to team up with him on his next film, What Happens at Night. DiCaprio's advice was basically: be ready for Scorsese to throw a ton of film references at you. Translation: expect homework, and a lot of it.
As for the new movie, here's the gist: an American couple heads to a snowy European town to adopt a child, checks into a mysterious hotel, meets some odd characters, and as the adoption gets closer, things take a turn. The couple starts questioning their marriage and what's real. Sounds like Scorsese doing a chilly, psychological detour — I'm in.
Meanwhile in Panem...
Lawrence's Katniss run wrapped in 2015 with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Now there are fresh reports floating around that she and Josh Hutcherson could pop back up for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which Lionsgate has on the calendar for November 20, 2026. No guarantees on who's actually in it yet, but that's the date.
