Jennifer Lawrence Almost Joined Twilight — Her Response to Robert Pattinson’s Sequel Idea Is Priceless
Twilight almost had Jennifer Lawrence, but as she revealed to Robert Pattinson in a candid Vanity Fair sit-down, she auditioned and is relieved she didn’t land the role.
File this under celebrity crossovers I did not have on my 2025 bingo card: Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence sat down for a Vanity Fair lie detector chat to promote their movie 'Die My Love,' and out of nowhere Lawrence casually mentioned she once auditioned for a role in 'Twilight.' Pattinson, the guy who literally played Edward Cullen, looked stunned and asked if she actually wanted the part. Her answer: a very quick no. They did not go any deeper, which honestly makes it funnier.
Pattinson says he would return to 'Twilight'... with one big asterisk
During the same polygraph segment, Lawrence pressed him on whether he would come back for a sequel or reboot. Pattinson said yes, and he leaned into the joke that he enjoys playing younger than his actual age.
"Oh yeah, for sure. I don't think you should. It would be great! I like taking jobs of younger actors. I do. I want to play 17 again."
The catch: he said he would do it if Josh and Benny Safdie were the ones directing. That tracks. Pattinson teamed with the Safdies on the 2017 crime thriller 'Good Time,' the movie that reintroduced him as more than the brooding vampire guy. It showed off a ton of emotional range and physical intensity, and that run helped pave the way to left-field gigs like voicing The Heron in Hayao Miyazaki's 'The Boy and the Heron.'
So what is actually happening with 'Twilight' right now?
Lionsgate clearly still sees life in the franchise. There is an animated project in development at Netflix called 'Midnight Suns' that is supposed to expand the series lore. Yes, the title sounds suspiciously close to a different comic book thing, but that is what is being floated. Lionsgate also put the entire 'Twilight' Saga back in theaters in October. The studio picked up Summit Entertainment back in 2012 and has been saying they had plans; between the re-release and the animated project, a reboot or sequel no longer feels far-fetched.
Quick refresher on the first movie
- Title: 'Twilight'
- Director: Catherine Hardwicke
- Main cast: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Sarah Clarke
- Rotten Tomatoes: 48% critics, 72% audience
- Box office: $408 million worldwide
- Where to watch (US): streaming on Hulu
Bottom line: Jennifer Lawrence almost ended up in Forks, she is very happy she did not, and Robert Pattinson would go back to high school if the Safdies ran homeroom. If Lionsgate really is spinning up new 'Twilight,' do not be shocked if that wild combo becomes a real conversation.
