James Gunn just stoked Peacemaker buzz, hinting during a Season 2 watch party that June Moone, the Enchantress, may have quietly attended Rick Flag Jr.’s funeral — a sly nod to deeper Suicide Squad ties.

James Gunn did the thing he does: he answered a fan question without really answering it, and now everyone is reading tea leaves. During a Peacemaker Season 2 watch party, he dropped a little grenade about who might have shown up at Rick Flag Jr.'s funeral.

So... was June Moone at that funeral?

On Threads, during the Episode 5 watch party, a fan asked why June Moone (aka Enchantress) wasn’t at Flag Jr.'s funeral or coming after Peacemaker. Gunn’s reply was short, pointed, and just vague enough to set fandom on fire:

'Who said she wasn't? We saw literally one minute of the wake. And who knows.'

Translation: the show only gave us a blink-and-you-miss-it slice of the wake, so he’s leaving the door open that she was there and we just didn’t see her. Classic Gunn coyness.

Quick refresher: Episode 5 'Back to the Suture'

The episode opens with a flashback to Rick Flag Jr.'s funeral, where Emilia Harcourt swears she’ll make Peacemaker pay for his part in Flag’s death. From there, the hour keeps digging into the fallout:

  • Chris Smith gets jumped by Rick Flag Sr., who is not exactly in a forgiving mood about his son.
  • Harcourt keeps her distance emotionally — she says what they had meant nothing — but still backs Chris against A.R.G.U.S., which tells you plenty.
  • Sasha Bordeaux reemerges with cybernetic upgrades after that crash, which is a very comic-book way to bounce back.
  • We also get nods to Flag Sr.'s past relationships, which feels like setup for more complications.

The Enchantress factor (and why fans care)

If you know your Suicide Squad lore, June Moone is a big part of Rick Flag Jr.'s history, so her presence or absence at his funeral matters. Fans on Threads wondered if she even knows Peacemaker killed Flag. Others floated that Flag Sr. or A.R.G.U.S. could try to recruit her. Gunn didn’t confirm a thing — just nudged everyone not to assume she wasn’t there.

Point is, Peacemaker Season 2 is still very much living in the shadow of Flag Jr.'s death, and Episode 5 keeps weaving those past choices into present-day confrontations. The first five episodes are streaming now on Max (formerly HBO Max).
