Sorry, Superman fans: James Gunn just nixed a fan-favorite track from Man of Tomorrow. In a Threads post highlighting his favorite songs of the year, the director confirmed the highly requested tune won’t make the sequel’s soundtrack.

James Gunn just shot down the most predictable song request for his Superman sequel, and in the process basically confirmed the movie is going to be loaded with needle drops.

On Threads (Instagram's app), Gunn shared some of his favorite songs of the year, then said he couldn't reveal his actual top picks because most or all of them are already in 'Man of Tomorrow' — the follow-up to 'Superman.' A fan took the opening and asked for 3 Doors Down's 1999 hit 'Kryptonite.'

'not gonna happen.'

Honestly, not shocking. 'Kryptonite' was huge back in the day and name-drops the green rock constantly, but it's not really a Superman song. It's also the most on-the-nose choice imaginable, which Gunn clearly isn't interested in.

  • Release date: 'Man of Tomorrow' lands July 9, 2027.
  • Who's back: David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan are all set to return.
  • Title history: 'Man of Tomorrow' is one of Superman's classic nicknames. DC has used it on various comic runs, and there was a 2020 animated film called 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow.' Whether Gunn's DCU movie pulls from any of that is still unknown.
  • Soundtrack tease: Gunn says his real favorite songs of the year are already baked into the movie. Translation: expect a very curated playlist.
  • Where to watch 'Superman' now: The first DC Studios feature is already out on digital — you can rent or buy it on Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and the usual suspects.

If you haven't seen 'Superman' yet, Gunn's take blends big-scale action with his usual mix of humor and heart. This version of Clark leads with compassion and a pretty unwavering belief that people, at their core, are good. If that's your thing, it's an easy digital pickup while we all wait to see what songs did make the cut for 'Man of Tomorrow' — just not that one.
