James Gunn Just Made His DCU Debut With a Sneaky Peacemaker Season 2 Cameo

The DC boss crashed the Peacemaker season 2 finale with a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo — did you catch it?
Peacemaker season 2 hides a tiny cameo you probably missed, and yes, it is exactly who you think it is. James Gunn sneaks into the finale montage like a kid photobombing his own yearbook, and the way it got spotted is very on brand.
Where Gunn pops up
During the end-montage Foxy Shazam concert, there is a boat-set crowd shot. If you pause and squint, you can catch a familiar silhouette in the back: gray hair, glasses, doing the low-key dance of a director who knows he should not be drawing focus. A fan on Twitter froze the moment and shared it on October 13, 2025, which is how this went from myth to proof.
So it really was him
It is not a lookalike. Gunn confirmed the cameo on the latest episode of 'Peacemaker: The Official Podcast.' He also said he was not the only ring-in. John Economos himself, Steve Agee, was there, along with two members of the band Nelson. According to Gunn, this was a full crew crash-the-shot situation:
'I just said, Come on guys, let's all come out. The whole crew came out there, a lot of our PAs went out there. We were all just dancing around.'
He even called the freeze-frame hunt ahead of time:
'If you look in the very back, somebody might be able to freeze frame and find us back there.'
Other season 2 cameo business
The season did not stop at background shenanigans. Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor also shows up, setting the table for his return in the Superman sequel 'Man of Tomorrow.' In the HBO Max series, Lex strikes an uneasy deal with Rick Flag Sr., a move that spirals into John Cena’s Peacemaker getting marooned on an alternate dimension called Salvation — basically a dumping ground meant to hold Earth’s metahumans.
- The blink-and-miss-it Gunn cameo happens during the Foxy Shazam boat concert in the season 2 finale montage.
- Gunn confirmed it on 'Peacemaker: The Official Podcast' and said Steve Agee and two members of Nelson were in the mix, plus a bunch of crew and PAs.
- Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) appears this season too, teeing up 'Man of Tomorrow' and leaving Peacemaker stranded on the metahuman prison-dimension, Salvation.
So if you rewatch and catch a gray-haired guy in glasses dancing like he is trying not to be recognized, congratulations — you just found your director.
