So long, losers — the parting shot that lights the fuse and leaves the room reeling.

We are one episode away from the end of It: Welcome to Derry, and after last week’s cliffhanger, HBO just tossed gasoline on the anticipation with a finale teaser. It looks big, bloody, and very much Pennywise doing Pennywise things. Yes, Bill Skarsgard is back in full nightmare mode.

The teaser in a nutshell

  • It opens on Hallorann trying to fight off the dead whispering in his head. Not subtle, extremely creepy.
  • Marge, Ronnie, and Lilly figure out Will is missing. He’s not the only one.
  • Hundreds of new posters suddenly blanket the town, pointing to something grim: It seems the entity has essentially swallowed the entire school.
  • That does not bode well for Patty and the rest of the kids still down in those sewers.
  • The adults finally get pulled into the mess: Hanlon, Hallorann, Charlotte, and Rose are officially in the supernatural fight now.

"When I close my eyes and I dream of you, I see your pretty faces and I taste them, too. My oh my, how I wish to cry, every time we say goodbye!"

Yes, that is Pennywise singing, drenched in blood, like a lounge act at the world’s worst birthday party. Goosebumps achieved.

From there it quick-cuts through the players: Charlotte blows up at Hanlon; Shaw is out front leading a full-on hunt for It; and the kids and their new backup make a stand on the frozen edge of Derry. It climaxes with Pennywise tossing off a casual "So long, losers!" which, frankly, is not the vibe you want before a final showdown. Translation: odds are not great that everyone walks away.

If you’re caught up, the finale teaser is basically promising the confrontation the season has been building to: Skarsgard’s clown versus the kids, with the adults finally stepping in. If you’ve been waiting for the show to go for it, this looks like the swing.

It: Welcome to Derry is streaming on Max in the US. New episodes air on HBO in the US, and land Mondays on Sky Atlantic/NOW in the UK.
