It's Official: Young Sheldon Renewed for Season 7 – Here's What We Know So Far
We largely know what is going to happen, but not how.
Now approaching the end of Season 6, Young Sheldon seems to have 'outstayed its welcome' — this is not to say that fans aren't excited for more episodes and seasons to arrive, but one can't deny that Iain Armitage is obviously getting too old for the title role and many of the show's plotlines seem to be nearing their logical conclusion.
However, CBS' renewal deal from 2021 covered the series through to a seventh season, and it has been repeatedly confirmed that Season 7 is indeed going to happen.
The new season of Young Sheldon is likely to air during the 2023–2024 broadcast season. So what can fans expect to see in it?
For starters, with a high degree of certainty, we can expect the series to come to its final close. In Season 7, Sheldon Cooper will be turning 14, and as fans surely know, this is the age he left his hometown in Texas to study at CalTech. True, it is possible for Young Sheldon to continue after that point, but this is highly unlikely.
Furthermore, it's expected that Season 7 will show us many of the dramatic moments that influenced Sheldon, making him the sort of person he was in The Big Bang Theory. Those moments include Sheldon seeing his father cheat on his mother (in fact, Season 6 suggests George Sr. is having an affair with their neighbor, Brenda, but Sheldon doesn't know this yet) and the Cooper family effectively falling apart with Sheldon moving out.
If the cheating incident is not featured in Season 6 (and according to the show's creators, it won't be), it's likely that Season 7 will cover that storyline, showing Sheldon walk in on George and Brenda having sex.
Importantly, Season 7 is likely to include (or even conclude with) George Cooper's death. The character's heart problems, which surfaced several times throughout Young Sheldon, have foreshadowed this tragedy, and we also know that Sheldon lost his father when he was 14.
All in all, it looks like we'll see plenty of bad things happen in Young Sheldon Season 7. But on the other hand, fans can expect some positive developments in Georgie and Missy's storyline.
For now, Young Sheldon is still in its sixth season, with the next episode airing on May 4, 2023.
