BBC One's thriller The Guest is wrapping up its weekly run, but let's be real: all four episodes have been sitting on BBC iPlayer for a while, so a lot of you already blitzed through it. If you have, you know the season ends with a pile of reveals about Fran's business and why she zeroed in on Ria. So, the obvious question: is there more on the way?
Warning - spoilers for The Guest season 1
Is The Guest getting a season 2?
Officially, we don't know yet. The BBC has not announced a renewal. Unofficially, it's very possible. Season 1 ties up Ria and Fran's story pretty neatly, but creator Matthew Barry has been upfront that the show was designed as an anthology: same themes, different characters.
Barry told the Royal Television Society magazine that the plan from day one was to return with a new tale in the same social-climbing, class-warfare wheelhouse.
'From the start, we planned to come back for another season. We'd still explore social mobility and class in a Ripley/Parasite-esque thriller, but with different characters and a different story.'
On top of that, Mail Online has reported that development on season 2 has kicked off. Take that as early chatter for now — the BBC hasn't confirmed anything.
When could season 2 land?
No renewal means no date. That said, if the anthology approach holds (new cast, new story), production could move quickly once it gets the green light. The optimistic version of this timeline has it arriving as soon as late 2026. Emphasis on 'could' — this is a best-case scenario, not a promise.
Who would be in it?
If it returns the way Barry describes, expect a fresh set of faces rather than a direct continuation of Ria and Fran. Cameos or a supporting player stepping forward aren't impossible, but plan for a clean slate.
- Gabrielle Creevy as Ria Powell (possible cameo if they bring anyone back)
- Eve Myles as Fran Sharp (same caveat)
- Sion Daniel Young as Lee Mace (could return if the anthology bends the rules)
- Bethan Mary-James as Sharla (ditto)
Is there a trailer?
Not yet. No renewal, no footage. If you need a fix, the season 1 trailer is still doing the rounds, and the entire first season is up on BBC iPlayer right now.
Bottom line
The Guest season 2 isn't official, but the anthology angle was baked in from the start, which makes a return feel likely. Think The Talented Mr Ripley meets Parasite, again, just with a new cast and a new con. When the BBC makes a call, you'll know it — until then, consider late 2026 the earliest realistic window.
