Jamie Tartt's actor speculates about whether a Ted Lasso sequel is a possibility.

It's been a few days since the end of the third and apparently final season of Ted Lasso, and fans of the Apple TV+ hit comedy series still can't get over it. Despite lots of criticism that the show faced during its final installment, it surely gave us a warm and logical finale, making it much harder to say goodbye to the beloved characters.

Fans are surely looking forward to a follow-up, but what about the series' cast members — are the actors as keen for a Ted Lasso sequel as we are? Earlier, Hannah Waddingham admitted that she would love to play Rebecca for as long as possible, but it looks like Jamie Tartt's Phil Dunster isn't so sure about reprising his role.

Jamie Tartt had one of the most fascinating arcs on the show, evolving from an arrogant jerk to the most endearing character over the course of three seasons. In the finale, Jamie lost a few things, but he also gained a lot. Unable to reunite with Keeley, who chose not to date either him or Roy, the AFC Richmond striker secured the team's victory over West Ham and also finally reconnected with his father. Despite the rivalry for Keeley's attention, he and Roy remained friends.

Without a doubt, this was a very special role for Phil Dunster, and he should love to do it again. However, the actor is a little tentative about the possibility of Ted Lasso spanning into more seasons or another show, as he is well aware that series tend to lose quality when the writers are forced to come up with new stories for the sake of ratings or fan service.

'I would love for there to be more but also, if that's all [Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly] wrote, let it be because we can all think of TV shows that have gone on and on when they need to end. If it's meant to be more, then I'm up for it, but if not, then it's been a hell of a journey,' the actor said.

At the same time, Dunster recognizes the fact that some of Jamie's arcs have been left open in the finale. For one, his reunion with his father is yet to develop into a warm relationship, which may not be easy since the two have had plenty of animosities in the past. We could also see Jamie's friendship with Roy flourish even further — but apparently, the actor would prefer to keep things as they were left in the finale.

'I think that [Jamie and Roy] are in a good place, and I don't think we could want much more from them in terms of their emotional progression. It's nice to see that they have some resolution, but still, it's not quite fully there yet, it's more interesting that way,' Dunster explained.
