Is Rogue Joining Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday? How Her Powers Could Change Everything
Avengers: Doomsday is gearing up to eclipse its predecessor as the X-Men officially storm the MCU after Hugh Jackmans Wolverine — but fans hoping for Rogue may be out of luck, with early buzz pointing to her absence.
Avengers: Doomsday is apparently aiming bigger than the last Avengers outing, and this time the X-Men are finally stepping into the MCU proper after Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Naturally, the next question is: does that include Rogue? Short answer: don't get your hopes up.
So... is Rogue in Avengers: Doomsday?
Right now, the roster that's making the rounds includes Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Mystique. Rogue's name hasn't been in that mix. An insider who goes by @variablelace — the same person who shared those Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 set pics — says Rogue isn't part of the lineup in Doomsday. That post has since vanished from X, but CBM captured the gist.
"I will say this is everything I've heard BEFORE the reshoots they're planning, so maybe they could possibly be added... I personally doubt they would play any major role if they were to be added... my money is on Secret Wars."
According to that same chatter, Storm and Jean Grey aren't expected this time either. Could reshoots change things? Sure. But if they do pop up, don't expect more than a blink-and-you-miss-it tease.
- Reported for Doomsday: Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Mystique
- Not expected (for now): Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey
Quick refresher: who Rogue is and why fans care
Rogue (Anna Marie LeBeau) is one of the X-Men's most tragic heavy-hitters. Her whole deal is absorption: with just a touch, she can pull memories, abilities, and even life force. Great in a fight, brutal for literally everything else. Physical intimacy is a no-go, which has left her isolated and wrestling with who she even is.
The comics have put that power to some rough tests. She once kissed Gambit — the love of her life — and he ended up in a coma. The fallout was worse: she learned about his role in the Mutant Massacre. She also absorbed Captain Marvel's powers for a long stretch, which is how she picked up flight and a stacked set of superhuman stats (strength, stamina, durability, agility, reflexes). On top of that, she's agile and trained in swordplay and acrobatics — Nightcrawler, her adoptive brother, has had a hand in that.
Could Anna Paquin come back as Rogue?
Anna Paquin played Rogue in the Fox X-Men films, popped up briefly in Days of Future Past, and got an extended spotlight in that film's Rogue Cut. It's been over a decade, but she told Entertainment Tonight in April 2024 that she'd return if it was as simple as, quote, "being asked".
She also made it clear there's one thing she still wants: to actually fly. As she put it: "I never got to fly, come on." A lot of fans felt the live-action films shortchanged Rogue, and the character's had some redemption lately in X-Men '97, but a proper MCU take would be a chance to fix that.
The date to circle
Avengers: Doomsday is currently set for December 18, 2026.
