Is Megan Really Pregnant? Cruel Summer S2E4 Ending Explained

Teenage dramas are a standalone television genre aimed at a very distinct audience, so they rarely try to attract older viewers to watch them. In this respect, Cruel Summer is one of the few shows that appeal to fans of different ages. Thanks to its dark and intense narrative focusing on a mysterious crime, the series enjoyed success in 2021 and was renewed for a second season, which aired its first episode on June 5.

The second season features a completely new plot, revolving around three characters — Megan, Isabella, and Luke — who found themselves in a tragic quagmire over the four episodes released. As Luke went missing and was later found dead, Megan and Isabella became the prime suspects. The fourth episode reveals that Megan might be pregnant with Luke's baby, which, in the opinion of the police, gave her a motive to kill him.

However, it's not even clear if Megan is or ever was pregnant with Luke's baby. First of all, it's the timing of the events that makes it unlikely, because Luke and Megan must have conceived the baby before his disappearance in winter — however, it is summer already, and there are no visible signs of Megan's six-month pregnancy.

In Episode 4, Megan's mother, Debbie, finds a blood-soaked sheet in her garbage, which suggests that Megan either had a miscarriage or got an at-home abortion. Regardless of which of the two options are true, getting rid of a six-month-old fetus is not something she could easily pull off at home, so Megan's (implied) lost or aborted pregnancy must be pretty recent, and the baby is not Luke's.

Despite these inconsistencies, the police are still convinced that Megan was pregnant with Luke's baby, as they have found some evidence supporting it on her computer in Episode 4.

Regardless of whether Megan is indeed pregnant with Luke's baby or not, the majority of fans are still unconvinced that this would give her a motive for killing him. We'll have to wait until the rest of Season 2 is released to find out the truth behind this mysterious pregnancy.
