Is Liam Hemsworth Already Doomed as The Witcher?
It's either a blessing or a curse.
The third season of Netflix's The Witcher adhered more closely to Andrzej Sapkowski's source material. However, even this loyalty couldn't prevent the live-action series from sinking into obscurity, a fate seemingly cemented by the poorly received Season 2.
Matters were further complicated by the news of Henry Cavill's exit, following creative differences with the writers, led by Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich. Despite this setback, Netflix chose to renew the series for another season, casting Liam Hemsworth as Cavill's successor. Many fans, however, consider Hemsworth's decision to accept the role a huge mistake.
Public Opinion
'Replacing Henry Cavill in that role will probably be the biggest mistake of his career,' a fan opined.
Cavill's exit stunned many, given his well-known appreciation for both the video games and the original books. His portrayal of Geralt resonated deeply with the source material and was even endorsed by Sapkowski himself. For numerous viewers, he was the main draw to the series.
Thus, there's widespread skepticism about the Hunger Games star filling Cavill's shoes without negatively impacting his own reputation and future career.
Is It About the Actor?
However, this isn't a reflection of Hemsworth's acting prowess.
'I feel like if he absolutely nails the role to perfection, it's still gonna bomb partially because ppl are gonna refuse to watch,' another fan said.
Although Netflix remains committed, the series' ratings have been underwhelming, and even Season 3 hasn't substantially increased the show's aggregate rating. Many fans insist they have no plans to continue watching the show.
Positive Outlook?
'People thought Daniel Craig would be the worst Bond ever,' one fan pointed out.
Fellow cast members point out that Liam Hemsworth has already embarked on rigorous preparation for his role, diving into the source material and even receiving guidance from Cavill. The actor seems fully committed, fostering hopes that his rendition of Geralt of Rivia will be at least adequate or maybe even great.
It should also be noted that while Cavill's Geralt was brooding and enigmatic, some felt his performance lacked charisma. Instead of pre-emptively decimating Hemsworth in comments, perhaps we should give him the benefit of the doubt: he might elevate the series to new heights.
