Insidious 6 Wraps Filming as James Wan Welcomes the Sequel’s Director Into the Family
Insidious 6 creeps into theaters next summer, resurrecting the franchise for another jolt of night terrors.
Well, that was quick. Two years after the fifth Insidious hit theaters, the next chapter has already finished filming and is lining up a summer 2026 release. Here is what just happened and what it probably means for the franchise.
The announcement
The news dropped on X (Twitter) on November 13, 2025 with a simple tease: "That’s a wrap on the next chapter of Insidious. See you in August." Read between the lines and that points to an August 2026 theatrical release window.
New director, same haunted house
Director Jacob Chase confirmed wrap on Instagram and thanked the team in a note that sounds like he had a very good time stepping into the fog.
"I’m wildly grateful to the cast, the crew, and for the dedication and care they put into every frame."
Chase is new to Insidious, but he already has the franchise seal of approval. Series creator James Wan chimed in with: "Congrats, Jacob. Welcome back from the Further. You’re now part of the family!"
What we know (and what we do not)
- Title: Still under wraps (no official subtitle yet).
- Release plan: In theaters August 2026, following that summer tease.
- Filming status: Wrapped.
- Returning: Lin Shaye is back as psychic Elise Rainier.
- Likely shift: It does not look like Patrick Wilson or Rose Byrne are returning this time, which suggests the story may pivot away from the Lambert family.
- Cast lineup: Brandon Perea, Amelia Eve, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, Island Austin, and Laura Gordon join the sequel.
- Plot: Not revealed. With Elise back, expect her and her paranormal crew to get pulled into another household’s nightmare.
Quick refresher
Insidious launched in 2010 with James Wan directing Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as parents whose comatose son becomes a target for entities from an astral plane. Insidious: Chapter 2 followed in 2013, and the series kept going with Insidious: Chapter 3, Insidious: The Last Key, and Insidious: The Red Door. Now, two years after that fifth film, the next entry is already in the can and headed our way.
Bottom line: Insidious 6 (title TBD) is finished shooting, has Lin Shaye leading the charge, a fresh director with James Wan’s blessing, and an August 2026 theatrical date on deck. More as soon as the title and plot crack open.
