Inside Jennifer Lawrence’s Power Move That Landed Robert Pattinson In Die My Love
Jennifer Lawrence says she personally recruited Robert Pattinson for Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Love, revealing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon how she convinced him to join the volatile marriage drama.
Jennifer Lawrence finally explained how she roped Robert Pattinson into Lynne Ramsay's 'Die My Love' — and it is exactly the kind of casual, extremely Hollywood story you think it is.
How Pattinson ended up playing her husband
On 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' Lawrence said bringing Pattinson aboard was her idea. She also gave director Lynne Ramsay a ton of credit for making the whole casting process weirdly painless, saying it was one of those productions where every first choice actually said yes. That almost never happens.
In the film, Lawrence and Pattinson play a married couple locked in a volatile relationship. They have known each other around the industry for years, but somehow never shared a set until now.
The almost-collab that fizzled, and the casual pitch that stuck
Both of them blew up in the late 2000s and early 2010s — Lawrence with 'The Hunger Games,' Pattinson with 'Twilight' — but their careers never overlapped. Pattinson told V Magazine he had always wanted to work with her, and they were actually circling a different project together before it fell apart. Then Lawrence just... asked.
"I’d always wanted to work with her. I was literally talking to her about something else, and she just said, 'Oh, by the way, do you want to play my husband in this Lynne Ramsay movie?' And I was like, 'What? Why?' Because it wasn’t even on my radar."
He said he was in a strange place personally at the time, but once he dug into the adaptation, he jumped on it. Both have since been pretty open about how much they liked working together.
Lawrence calls it her 'Twilight' revenge
If you know the lore, you know Lawrence once auditioned for 'Twilight' — and didn't even get a callback. That would have been her first shot at acting alongside Pattinson. Instead, fate rerouted her to 'The Hunger Games' and a very different kind of stardom. She told Variety that getting Pattinson into her movie felt like "the total revenge that I've wanted." Playful, but point taken: this time she didn't have to wait for anyone to say yes to her.
How 'Die My Love' landed
The movie pulled generally favorable reviews. Critics singled out Lawrence's performance and Ramsay's direction — not exactly shocking if you've seen their past work.
