Will the writers ever address that cheating scene?

Since its release in 2017, Young Sheldon frequently referenced and explained the details mentioned in its parent show, The Big Bang Theory.

And now, people are hyped up to see one particular moment that adult Sheldon shared with Penny on TBBT.

In this scene on TBBT, Sheldon says that, when he was 13 and arrived home from university unexpectedly for his spring break, he walked in on his dad having sex with another woman. Sheldon was hurt and embarrassed by this and he never talked about it with his father, carrying his teenage trauma into adulthood.

The incident is clearly very important Sheldon, and we're likely to see it on screen as early as in the next episode! That is, if we get to see that scene at all…

'They've been emphasizing spring break for the past two episodes. It's very plausible that it will be this season,' one of the show's fans noted on Reddit.

Episodes 16 and 17 of Season 6 clearly indicate that Sheldon and Missy are on vacation. Also, this is 1993, which means that Sheldon is 13 years old. So unless the writers do a time jump or choose not to focus on the incident at all, we can expect the event to take place in the next episode.

However, according to Steve Holland, a producer and writer who worked on both TBBT and Young Sheldon, the storyline will not be featured in Season 6 at all or the writers may skip it altogether:

'Not in Season 6, but it's possible that it will get addressed in the future. But again, without saying it didn't happen, we're not obligated to tell all the stories that Sheldon told on Big Bang,' Holland explained.

We should keep in mind that Young Sheldon is narrated by adult Sheldon, so it's meant to be seen as a memoir. That's why, on the one hand, the narrator may not want to go into his traumatic flashback. But on the other hand, Cooper didn't seem particularly traumatized as he told Penny about the incident in TBBT — on the contrary, it seems that he has come to terms with this event over the years.

So from this point of view, Holland and the other writers may be keeping the truth from fans, as the other events in the show clearly lead us to believe that the uncomfortable encounter between Sheldon and his father is inevitable.

In addition, because we saw that Mary and Brenda buried the hatchet in Episode 17, we can expect Sheldon's mother and father getting back together in the following episode.

So, for a bit of speculation, could he possibly walk in on his parents having sex and not recognize his mom? This is one possible explanation to this whole incident — but anyway, viewers want to see the issue addressed in the remaining episodes of Season 6.

Young Sheldon Season Season 6 Episode 18 will arrive on CBS on April 27, 2023.
