The very beginning, a madman from the past and time anomalies.

The Truth Is Out There – this is the slogan in the beginning of one of the most famous series about conspiracy theories, aliens and paranormal phenomena, The X-Files. We recall five of our favorite episodes of the project, which aired from 1993 to 2018.

1. Pilot – Season 1 Episode 1

The pilot episode introduces viewers to a young FBI agent, Dana, who is sent by management to work with the eccentric Fox. Mulder personally deals with solving dubious cases, one way or another, related to the paranormal or conspiracy theories.

Dana's job is to monitor her colleague's activities and report back to management, who are biased in favor of Fox.

The duo's first case together is a series of mysterious deaths of teenagers in Oregon. Mulder suspects aliens, while Scully is skeptical, although some events make her doubt the rational explanation of what is happening.

2. Memento Mori – Season 4 Episode 14

Scully is diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, the result of a suspected alien abduction. She begins chemotherapy in the hospital and writes down her thoughts and feelings in a journal addressed to Mulder.

Meanwhile, Fox tries to find a way to save her by researching the stories of other abducted women. The trail leads him to a medical center in Pennsylvania, where he discovers a group of clones named Kurt Crawford.

3. Paper Hearts – Season 4 Episode 10

Once upon a time, Fox helped catch serial killer John Lee Roche. Years later, Fox begins having strange dreams. In them, the killer leads him to places where the bodies of his victims are hidden – little girls, from each of whom he has cut a heart-shaped piece of clothing.

The dreams prove to be prophetic: Mulder is indeed finding the remains of previously unknown victims.

It soon turns out that Roche began killing earlier than previously thought, and this discovery makes the agent think of something terrible: what if his sister Samantha, who was believed to have been abducted by aliens, was actually one of the madman's first victims?

4. Humbug – Season 2 Episode 20

Mulder and Scully arrive in a town where a series of mysterious attacks have been occurring for the past 28 years. The town is known for being home to an entire community of former circus performers.

Among the locals are Dr. Blockhead, who can swallow nails; the mysterious Enigma; the dwarf Mr. Nutt; and Lanny – a man with a twin brother, Leonard, who remains partially attached to his body after an unsuccessful separation operation.

Investigating another murder, the agents plunge into the world of circus performers and try to find the mysterious killer.

5. Triangle – Season 6 Episode 3

The episode begins with Mulder waking up in the middle of the ocean aboard the passenger liner Queen Anne. He soon realizes that he has landed on a ship that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle in 1939.

On the ship, the agent encounters Nazi spies hunting for an important scientist and meets a woman who is a dead ringer for Scully.

Meanwhile, back in the present, Scully herself, having learned of her partner's disappearance, tries to get help from the FBI leadership in her search, but encounters all the delights of the bureaucratic system.
