The hook: Carmela, a free spirit from the present, trips through time into colonial-era Philippines and slips into the life of one of her ancestors. Last week tightened the screws on both the romance and the politics. Helena poured her heart out to what she thought was a sleeping Carmela, thanking her for bringing her closer to Juanito. Carmela was very much awake for that confession, and she tried to pull back from Juanito afterward. Naturally, that only drew him in more. Helena then spotted the two together, promptly fainted, and sent everyone scrambling.
Things did not calm down. At the wake for Mr. Valdez's brother, Helena heard that the rebel conflict was heating up. So now we are heading into Episode 10 with emotions running hot and a town inching toward unrest. Expect sharper edges and new revelations as those threads tangle.
