Hunter x Hunter remains on ice as creator Yoshihiro Togashi battles health issues, sharing occasional progress updates but offering no date for the manga’s return. Fans keep waiting; the comeback clock is still ticking with no official timeline.

Hunter x Hunter is still in that weird limbo only Hunter x Hunter can pull off: no official return date, plenty of progress teases from Yoshihiro Togashi, and a timeline that somehow includes chapters 411, 413, and 419 all being talked about at once. Here is where things actually stand, without the guesswork spiraling into myth.

Where things stand right now

The manga has had one of the most irregular serialization runs in the industry across its 27-year lifespan, largely because Togashi has been dealing with serious health issues. He has talked openly about severe back pain that has made something as basic as sitting in a chair difficult. The most recent chapter that officially released was Chapter 410, back in November 2024. The series is set to return after another long break with Chapter 411, but there is still no locked-in date for that.

The new updates (and why they sound contradictory)

Togashi has been unusually transparent lately, posting work-in-progress notes on his official X account. Not long ago, he said he was about halfway through the contents of Chapter 413. More recently, on September 10, 2025, he posted an update specifically labeled for Chapter 419:

"No.419, background specification book completed."

That sounds wonky, so here is the inside baseball: a background specification book is basically the guide that lays out what the backgrounds should look like across the chapter. It is part of the production process, not the final print pass. His post implies the core materials for that chapter — designs, dialogue, and backgrounds — are in place, but there is still cleanup, error checks, and proofreading to do. Also worth remembering: production order and release order are not always the same. He can be building a pipeline of chapters (like 413 through 419) while publication waits for the magazine schedule, editorial sign-off, and his health.

  • Last official chapter out: 410 (November 2024)
  • Next chapter to return with: 411 (no date yet)
  • Progress note: Togashi said he was halfway through Chapter 413
  • Latest post: on September 10, 2025, he said Chapter 419's background spec book is done
  • Translation: progress is real, but final checks and scheduling still stand between these chapters and release

So when is Chapter 413 coming?

Short answer: not soon enough. Given the pace and the fact that Chapter 411 still has not dropped, it is reasonable to expect Chapter 413 sometime next year. That is speculative, and it completely depends on when 411 lands. If 411 arrives sooner than expected, everything shifts up; if not, the wait stretches.

Where to read Hunter x Hunter (and watch it)

The manga began in 1998 in Weekly Shonen Jump. If you want to read it legally, VIZ Media's Shonen Jump offers the latest chapters free as they roll out, with subscriptions for full catalog access. Shueisha's MANGA Plus also publishes official English chapters worldwide. If you are more in the anime mood, the series is available on Crunchyroll. And yes, Hunter x Hunter is available to read on Viz Media.

Bottom line: Togashi is working. The updates are legit. The schedule is still the schedule. When we finally get 411, the rest should start lining up — but until then, expect more progress posts than publication dates.
