Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones lead Mosquito, a Hulu comedy series from acclaimed writer Tony McNamara, a sardonic spin on newlywed life as Kate and Ed discover marriage bites back.

Hulu just scooped up my favorite kind of oddball: a Tony McNamara comedy where an entire marriage starts coming apart because of a mosquito. Yes, really. And yes, I am absolutely in.

So, what is 'Mosquito'?

It is a six-episode comedy from Tony McNamara with Daisy Edgar-Jones and Nicholas Hoult playing newlyweds whose carefully curated selves start to crack once real life presses in. The twist is delightfully absurd: the unraveling kicks off thanks to one very meddlesome mosquito. If you know McNamara's work, that checks out tonally.

  • Leads: Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, Nicholas Hoult as Ed
  • Format: Six episodes, straight-to-series order
  • Where to watch: Hulu in the U.S., Disney+ internationally
  • Creator: Tony McNamara writes and executive produces
  • Other executive producers: Nicholas Hoult, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, Daniel Pipski
  • Studios: 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions, Hustle & Punch
  • Filming: Starts in 2026

The reunion factor

This pairs McNamara and Hoult again after their run on 'The Great,' the sharp, profane period satire about Catherine the Great's rise. Both of them snagged Emmy nominations for that series, which tells you what kind of chemistry and tone you can expect: elegant chaos with teeth.

McNamara on the hook

"I am thrilled and excited to work with and team up two of the best actors around. I can not wait to go make absurd comedy with them."

Given his track record writing the Oscar-nominated screenplays for 'The Favourite' and 'Poor Things,' an unhinged relationship comedy feels like home turf.

Where the leads have been lately

Hoult has been sprinting. In 2024 alone he starred in 'The Order,' 'Juror #2,' and 'Nosferatu.' This past summer he suited up as Lex Luthor in 'Superman' and will be back as the bald genius in the sequel 'Man of Tomorrow,' dated for July 9, 2027.

Edgar-Jones had a big 2024 with 'Twisters.' She is set to play Elinor Dashwood in Focus Features' 2026 take on 'Sense and Sensibility,' and she is currently shooting 'Here Comes the Flood,' a Netflix heist movie with Denzel Washington and Robert Pattinson. Not a bad dance card.

Bottom line

A marriage comedy that detonates over a bug bite sounds like exactly the kind of precise, slightly vicious farce McNamara loves. With Hoult and Edgar-Jones headlining and cameras rolling in 2026, Hulu and Disney+ just landed a very promising piece of slick, stinging entertainment.
