Hugh Jackman might not be done with Wolverine. In a new conversation with Cynthia Erivo, he hinted the mutant’s MCU future remains wide open — despite Logan being billed as his 2017 farewell.

Hugh Jackman is not ready to slam the door on Wolverine. In a new chat, he basically says the goodbye he gave us in 2017 might not have been the last word. Not a clue buried in PR-speak either — he says it out loud.

What he actually said

Talking with Cynthia Erivo for Variety and CNN's Actors on Actors, Jackman walked through how 2017's Logan was designed as his final ride. He says it really felt like the end, and he needed to plant a flag that it was the end so he could protect what that movie was trying to do. In his words, he had to fight for certain choices, which meant telling everyone: this is the last time.

Then Deadpool happened. Watching Ryan Reynolds do his thing made Jackman see a classic buddy-cop energy — he literally referenced 48 Hrs and the Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte dynamic. At first he shoved that idea down because he had already told the world he was done. Eventually he changed his mind, did not apologize for it, and says coming back was awesome.

"It doesn't feel like the end."

What that means for the MCU

As of right now, Jackman is not booked for any future Marvel movies. That said, Wolverine survives at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine, which is as clear a setup as you can get for another round if everyone wants it.

Looking ahead, Marvel has two big team-up movies on the calendar that are expected to bring in a ton of familiar faces from across the franchise. The rumor mill says Jackman's Wolverine could show up in at least one of them, maybe both.

  • Avengers: Doomsday — in theaters December 18, 2026 (Jackman not officially attached)
  • Avengers: Secret Wars — in theaters December 17, 2027 (again, no official Jackman on the call sheet, just rumors)

So if you were hoping Jackman had one more lap in him, the odds just improved. It is not a confirmation, but it is definitely not a goodbye.
