How Each House of the Dragon Targaryen Dies in G.R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood
The remaining Targaryens will not live long.
With the highly anticipated second season of House of the Dragon premiering on HBO on June 16, fans of the Game of Thrones prequel are gearing up for an exciting and bloody war between the Black and Green clans of the Targaryens.
But if you can't wait to find out how the show's Targaryens die, G.R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, on which House of the Dragon is based, has all the answers.
Aegon Targaryen – Assassinated by Poisoning
Sorry for the spoilers, but the Green Team or Team Aegon wins the war between two clans of Targaryens vying for power in the HBO series. Shortly after becoming king, Aegon proves to be a terrible king and upsets the council. As a result, he is poisoned by a mysterious assassin who has never been found.
Helaena Targaryen – Suicide
Aegon's sweet-natured sister-wife died at her own hands after the Black Clan murdered her young sons. Devastated, Helaena falls into a deep depression and throws herself from one of the towers of the famous castle in King's Landing.
Aemond Targaryen – Killed in Combat
The third child of King Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower and second half-brother of Queen Rhaenyra, Aemond One-Eye was a brave warrior whose ferocity resembled that of a dragon. A fearsome warrior, Aemond was killed in battle by Daemon Targaryen, who stabbed him in the remaining eye while One-Eye was riding his dragon, Vhagar.
Daemon Targaryen – Killed in Combat
King Viserys I's younger brother and Queen Rhaenyra's uncle and husband was a warrior as renowned and brave as Aemond. Daemon probably died with his nephew, whom he killed in a sky battle over the God's Eye Lake when he fell into the water with Aegon's body and their mortally wounded dragons. Daemon's body was never recovered.
Rhaenys Targaryen – Killed in Combat
Cousin to Viserys I and Daemon, and mother-in-law to Rhaenyra during her first marriage to Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenys was a staunch supporter of her former daughter-in-law and fought at her side during the war. An experienced dragon rider, Rhaenys engaged in a kamikaze battle with both Aegon and Aemond while riding her dragon, Meleys. Outnumbered, Rhaenys and Meleys were both killed, but her sacrifice wasn't in vain as she severely wounded Aegon.
Rhaenyra Targaryen – Fed to Aegon's Dragon
The heir to King Viserys I, who started the said war after her half-brother Aegon usurped the throne, died after she was captured by Aegon's troops and he fed her alive to his dragon Sunfyre. Fortunately for Rhaenyra, her fight wasn't over, as the usurper was eventually killed and her sons, Viserys II and Aegon III, became kings.
