Hotel Transylvania is checking into TV at last, with Sony unveiling a release window and a first-look image for the new series—extending the monster-hit franchise launched in 2012 by creator Todd Durham and director Genndy Tartakovsky through three big-screen sequels.

Drac is packing his coffin and heading west. Netflix has circled 2027 for Motel Transylvania, a new TV spin on Sony Pictures Animation's monster franchise. Yes, 2027. Deep breath.

So what is it?

Motel Transylvania is the next TV chapter in the Hotel Transylvania universe (created by Todd Durham), produced by Sony Pictures Animation for Netflix. The setup this time: Drac and Mavis leave their spooky comfort zone to open a new resort for both humans and monsters in the California desert. Vampires plus sunshine? Not exactly a natural fit, which is the joke.

When is it coming?

The official Hotel Transylvania account announced the 2027 window and posted a first-look image featuring a 'gremlin wrecking crew' hustling to build the place. The post went up October 30, 2025.

"The gremlin wrecking crew is working overtime at the MOTEL TRANSYLVANIA. Coming to Netflix in 2027!"

How we got here

The franchise kicked off in 2012 with Genndy Tartakovsky directing the original Hotel Transylvania, and it has been busy ever since with sequels, shorts, and even a previous TV run. Quick refresher:

  • 2012: Hotel Transylvania (feature; directed by Genndy Tartakovsky)
  • 2015: Hotel Transylvania 2 (feature)
  • 2017–2020: Hotel Transylvania: The Series (TV; 2 seasons)
  • 2018: Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (feature)
  • 2022: Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (feature)
  • Plus: a handful of short films along the way

Who is voicing who?

The voices have shuffled across different projects, and there is zero casting info for Motel Transylvania yet. For context, the first movie's lineup included Adam Sandler as Count "Drac" Dracula, Andy Samberg as Jonathan "Johnny" Loughran, Selena Gomez as Mavis Dracula, Kevin James as Frankenstein, Steve Buscemi as Wayne, CeeLo Green as Murray, David Spade as Griffin the Invisible Man, Fran Drescher as Eunice, Molly Shannon as Wanda, Jon Lovitz as Quasimodo Wilson, and Chris Parnell as Mr. Fly, among others. We will see who sticks around for the motel era.

Bottom line

New setting, new sunburn risks, same monster family energy. Motel Transylvania hits Netflix in 2027, with more details to come once Sony and Netflix open the lobby for real.
