Home Alone 2 scene-stealer Tim Curry says he once lied to Ivana Trump at the Trump-owned Plaza Hotel during filming. He’s now spilling the cheeky on-set fib that slipped past the hotel’s president.

Tim Curry has a new Home Alone 2 story, and it involves a politely delivered lie, a hotel room he hated, and Donald Trump muscling his way into the movie. Yes, all at the Plaza.

The Ivana Trump room check

During the shoot for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Curry was staying at the Plaza Hotel, where he played the film's prickly concierge. In real life, the hotel was owned by Donald Trump at the time, and Ivana Trump was serving as its president. Curry told The Guardian that Ivana personally knocked on his door to ask if he was happy with his room and how it looked. He admitted he lied and said he was pleased, even though he absolutely loathed it.

Trump, Marla Maples, and the cameo everyone remembers

Curry also recalled Trump dropping by set and trying to connect his then-girlfriend, Marla Maples, with director Chris Columbus, pitching her as a brilliant actress. Curry's reaction was... skeptical, to put it gently.

As for Trump actually appearing in the movie, Columbus has said he only got access to the Plaza after paying the location fee and agreeing to put Trump on camera. Speaking to Business Insider, the director explained that the cameo was part of the deal.

'The only way you can use the Plaza is if I am in the movie.'

Columbus said that at the first test screening, the audience unexpectedly cheered when Trump showed up in the lobby scene, so he told his editor to keep the moment. Still, in his words, Trump bullied his way into the film. So that quick 'down the hall and to the left' cameo? Not exactly a casual drop-in — it was a condition of shooting in his hotel.
