Here's Why So Many Cruel Summer Fans Officially Hate Megan Now
These are just four reasons to dislike her.
Teen dramas can hardly appeal to adults. They tend to be corny and exaggerated, and the characters are usually self-absorbed jerks. And yet, once in a blue moon, there comes along a teen drama that adults can also enjoy.
One such exception that proves the rule is Freeform's Cruel Summer. Debuting in 2021, the show was promptly renewed for a second season, which premiered on 5 June this year. Half the episodes have already been released, and the audiences are getting more and more invested in the story. However, the new season has a major drawback: many viewers have pointed out that its central character, Megan Landry, is becoming increasingly obnoxious as the story unfolds.
The most recent episode, All I Want for Christmas, cast a long shadow on Megan, making many people really hate her, but what's so bad about her?
Terrible Friend
In episode 5, season 2, Megan demonstrates that she's a lousy friend. When her bestie Isabella presents her with an expensive monitor, a solid gift given the Landries' financial problems, Megan berates her friend. Furthermore, it's also revealed that Megan stole Luke from Isabella, meaning that when push came to shove, Megan chose her own interests over friendship in the blink of an eye.
'This episode was where I really started to dislike her. Like I get that she feels weird about being poor or whatever, but every time Isabella tries to do something genuinely kind and thoughtful for her, she acts like it's so terrible and sulks over it,' a Redditor pointed out.
Typical Teenager
The worst thing about teen dramas is the teens and their antiques. They're self-absorbed, mean, impulsive and casually cruel, and Megan ticks all the boxes. She has mood swings, and to add insult to injury, she's constantly angry with everything and everyone around her, including her family and friends.
Self-Absorption Level - God
Megan is the centre of her own universe, treating everybody like their entire purpose in life was to serve her. Her antiques are extremely annoying to viewers who don't find them cute. Sure, it's typical teenage behaviour, but it makes Megan a near-impossible character to relate to or identify with. She's the ultimate bad example.
Insufferable
It seems that Megan has become completely insufferable by this point. It's just impossible to empathise with her. She comes across as a spoiled, entitled brat who expects everyone to be at her beck and call at all times, and it's very annoying.
We can only hope to see some improvements in Megan in the sixth episode, which comes out on 3 July.
