‘Long live the Queen’ might not apply to Bridgerton’s Royal Highness.

So far, there have not been any major character deaths in Bridgerton, but that may all change in season 3.

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of Bridgerton season 3, or any news on when we can expect the next season of our favorite Regency-era drama. It comes as no surprise that during this time, Bridgerton fans have come up with another compelling theory, and it's not good news for Queen Charlotte.

Many fans believe that Queen Charlotte will die in the upcoming season if the writers have followed historical accuracy.

King George III, who stole ,and then broke our hearts, in the spinoff series ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,’ was based on the real King George III, and whilst their love story was relatively fictional, his descent into mental illness was very real and made for a big part of the series. Many parts of their love story season were historically accurate, from their swift arranged marriage to the queen’s fondness of pomeranian dogs.

Queen Charlotte, like George, is based on the real-life Queen Charlotte, who met her fate in 1818 after suffering deteriorating health in her later years, and eventually succumbing to pneumonia.

Season 3 will follow Colin and Penelope’s tumultuous journey to love, which spans over 10 years. The facts in this theory are pretty simple: Season 2 is set in 1814, season 3 may end in 1824, and the real Queen Charlotte dies in 1818.

If season 3 does feature a time jump, or span over 10 years and conclude in the year 1824, then Queen Charlotte dies before the season ends.

However, not all hope is lost. As viable as this theory is, it does not mean this is how the story will play out. Bridgerton producer Shonda Rhimes has made it clear, many times, that Bridgerton is ‘not a history lesson’.

Rhimes has gone on to remind fans that, although Queen Charlotte is inspired by a real historical figure, the series is ultimately ‘telling the story of Queen Charlotte of Bridgerton, not Queen Charlotte of England.’

What would we do without the sharp-witted, gossip-loving queen whom we’ve grown to love so dearly? We may soon have to live without her, but it all depends on how closely the writers have followed the historical facts in Bridgerton season 3. A
