Fans’ reaction is unexpected.

Great TV shows thrive on character development; without it, they struggle to maintain interest over multiple seasons. However, some characters inevitably receive more attention than others, and this disparity isn't always fair.

A prime example is Juno Temple's Keeley Jones on Ted Lasso. Introduced in the first season of the Apple TV+ show, she has been a consistent presence throughout the subsequent seasons.

Keeley has experienced significant character development, but as Ted Lasso approaches its conclusion in season 3, it seems the writers have left her character in limbo, uncertain about her future. In other words, Jones is treading water both professionally and personally.

Initially appearing on Ted Lasso as a moderately successful model with a penchant for footballers, Keeley lacked self-confidence. Over the series, she evolved into the more mature and self-reliant person we see in season 3. This personal growth endeared her to audiences, but as Jones is launching her own PR firm in the current season, she is struggling with managing it and finding common ground with her employees.

Keeley's personal life is also a mess. After an unexpected breakup with Roy Kent, she is unsure about her next steps in love. Moreover, she appears to be not quite over Kent. Although she embarks on a romance with Jodi Balfour's Jack Danvers, she doesn't seem genuinely committed to the relationship. Nonetheless, Ted Lasso's fans don't seem too concerned.

‘If I'm being honest, her being out of the picture last episode was a relief. She has her entire own separate storyline that has nothing to do with any of the other cast members and doesn’t even interact with them except for the scenes at the matches when she’s sitting with Rebecca and Leslie,’ one Ridditor’s comment goes. ‘I do like her character. But right now she doesn't have a connection to the core cast beyond the occasional text to Rebecca.’

Of course, we are yet to see what becomes of Keeley Jones as the show draws to an end. Next episode is out on 26 April.
