New on-set details have fans worried about narrative consistency.

Principal photography for the third season of one of Netflix's most popular romantic comedy dramas, Heartstopper, is well underway! And, of course, more and more details about what's in store for the next season are coming out as eagle-eyed fans actively follow the filming, examining the locations and the cast.

However, footage from a recent shoot in London has Heartstopper fans worried. Original comic book author Alice Oseman, who is also the writer and executive producer of the Netflix adaptation, has changed the timeline of events and the focus on certain characters more than once, but the first two seasons were faithful to the source material and didn't feel too rushed.

However, the new details may indicate that we are in for a major time jump, which could put the show in danger of ending after only three seasons.

New details from the shoot

On October 18, one of the fan channels dedicated to Heartstopper posted a video on TikTok that was filmed at Brunel University in London. In it, we can see the cast and crew of the series communicating with each other and preparing for the shoot.

The clip features actors Kit Connor, Yasmin Finney and Corinna Brown, who play Nick, Elle and Tara respectively.

The pacing may be a bit rushed

This is exactly what fans familiar with the source material have been complaining about. Some suggest that this is the moment when the three friends were visiting universities, and Nick was speculating about how Charlie would feel about moving far away from him (since Nick chose the University of Leeds).

Problem is, this is the moment of Chapter 7 of the graphic novel, which is part of Volume 5, which won't be released until December 2023. Fans assumed that Season 3 would focus primarily on Volume 4, which deals with Charlie's mental health. But if the script makes such a significant time jump, that narrative could be severely undermined, and the events themselves could be rushed.

Should we be worried though?

However, we should probably trust Alice's vision. First of all, the writer has already changed the chronology of events to create important emotional climaxes for the show: for example, the Spring/Nelson family dinner took place much earlier in the show.

It is quite possible that Oseman chose to set the college trip at the moment Charlie ended up in the psychiatric hospital so that the season would not feel rushed. Similarly, the focus on Charlie's mental state and Nick's concern for him in conversations with his friends could have been combined. Besides, the latter doesn't have to choose Leeds right now!

Do you think Season 3 will be rushed?
