Heartstopper Season 3 Really Does Come Out in 2024, It Seems
It looks like the new season will be coming out around the same release window as Season 2.
Summary
- Heartstopper's first season was a huge hit on Netflix, and the streaming service announced Seasons 2 and 3 at the same time.
- Filming for Season 3 is well underway, much to the delight of fans.
- The show's executive producer has indirectly confirmed that the new season will be released in 2024
Heartstopper, Netflix's premier LGBTQ+ teen drama, never fails to inspire its fans. The second season was launched just under three months ago, delving even further into the experiences, identity quests, and life journeys of Nick, Charlie, and their friends. While fans of the graphic novel series are looking forward to the release of Chapter 7 in December, not really paying much attention to the occasional updates on the new season of the TV adaptation, the show's fans have been closely following the filming of Season 3.
Filming began in October, much to the relief of fans concerned about the potential impact of the unprecedented double strike in Hollywood on UK production. Thankfully, everything proceeded smoothly, and we are now getting more insight into which elements of the comic series will be adapted, which will be omitted, which plot points will be dropped, and which will be included.
Nevertheless, one question remains on everyone's mind: when will Season 3 be released? Fortunately, some promising news has just been broken by the show's executive producer himself.
Some Exciting Details
A definitive and satisfying answer was provided by Patrick Walters, the executive producer of the series alongside Alice Oseman and the head of TV development at See-Saw Films, the company behind Heartstopper's production.
Although Walters hasn't made any official announcements, he's added a new line to his bio on Instagram, which says, 'S3 coming next year.'
Possible Release Window
One thing is certain: the new season won't be released until at least June 2024. Given that the first season was Emmy-nominated and won five Children's and Family Emmy Awards, it's clear that the creators will submit the second season for the awards as well. In this scenario, the show will participate in the 76th ceremony, as the season was released post-June 1, 2023, and the third season will likely be released a few months later so it can be submitted for consideration for the awards in time for the 77th ceremony.
That aligns with the time the crew spent on production for the second season. Filming began in September 2022 and concluded in December of that year. The season was then post-produced and released in August 2023, eight months later. Thus, Season 3, which started filming in October 2023, will likely wrap up filming in January and be released around August-September 2024.
