Minx is headed to Netflix US on November 4, 2025, reviving the acclaimed comedy’s two-season run after launching on HBO Max and a stint on Starz, with Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson leading the charge.

Minx is switching streamers again. The Ophelia Lovibond/Jake Johnson comedy lands on Netflix US on November 4, 2025 — another stop on a very bumpy distribution road (first spotted by What's on Netflix).

The show

Set in 1970s Los Angeles, Minx follows a young feminist writer who teams up with a slippery adult-entertainment publisher to launch the first erotic magazine for women. It is smart, sharp, and way better than its streaming luck suggests.

The reception backs that up: an overall 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, with season 1 at 98% and season 2 at 89%, plus a 7.6/10 on IMDb.

Netflix has not said whether both seasons will be available on day one, but that is the expectation.

How we got here (it is messy)

Minx originally launched on HBO Max. Then came the 2022 belt-tightening: HBO Max canceled the show while season 2 was nearly finished, a move tied to cost-cutting tax write-offs. Starz swooped in, aired season 1 and completed season 2… and then the timing got even worse. Season 2 premiered right as the SAG-AFTRA strike began, so promotion was basically nonexistent. With modest viewership and zero visibility, the show could not build the momentum it needed. In early 2024, Starz canceled it — again, just now on their watch.

"I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it's called now, I think that was brutal for [the show]. Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it... My guess is you can't beat something up that many times and keep going."

- Jake Johnson (Doug Renetti) to Deadline

Despite all that, both seasons stayed up on the Starz app and on digital platforms until Netflix stepped in to acquire streaming rights.

The bigger picture: Netflix keeps shopping Lionsgate TV

Netflix has been quietly expanding its haul from Lionsgate Television — the same pipeline Minx comes from — by licensing shows that started life elsewhere. Recent pickups include:

  • The Hunting Wives - A drama that debuts in the US this October; it quickly became a hit and was recently renewed for season 2.
  • Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist - The musical drama is available in select international regions.
  • Hightown - Crime drama now streaming in the US.
  • Love Life - Anthology series available in the US.
  • Spartacus - Historical action drama available in the US.
  • Nurse Jackie - Medical comedy-drama available in the US.

Could Netflix revive Minx?

Never say never, but do not get your hopes up. The move to Netflix should give the show a fresh audience (and it deserves one), but for now, a season 3 is unlikely.

Bottom line: Minx hits Netflix US on November 4, 2025. If you missed it during the HBO Max-to-Starz shuffle, this is your easiest chance to catch up — and maybe prove there is still an audience for it.
