Heated Rivalry is skating toward overtime: the hit Crave and HBO Max hockey drama has Season 2 in the bag, and a new GQ interview with star Hudson Williams teases that Season 3 may already be lining up.

Quick one for the hockey romance fans: there is movement on more of Crave and HBO Max's hit series 'Heated Rivalry' — and it sounds like the road could stretch into Season 3.

So, is Season 3 happening?

Officially, the show is renewed for Season 2. Unofficially, the leads are already thinking longer term. In a new GQ chat, stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie said they have signed on for three seasons. The catch: Crave has only ordered two so far. Given how big this thing has gotten, it sure feels like Season 3 is teed up if the momentum keeps rolling.

HBO Max also fanned the flames on December 12, 2025 with a promo confirming Season 2 is on the way.

'The game's not over.'

What the show is

'Heated Rivalry' is a Canadian sports drama about two superstar captains on rival pro hockey teams who fall for each other in secret. Shane Hollander (Williams) is the Asian-American captain of the Montreal Metros. Ilya Grigoryevich Rozanov (Storrie) wears the C for the Boston Raiders. On the ice, they are headline material; off the ice, they get pulled into a romance that stretches over eight years. The series tracks them chasing trophies while trying to figure out if their relationship can survive the pressure cooker of elite hockey — and whether there’s room for something as fragile and powerful as real love alongside the win-at-all-costs grind.

Who is involved

The ensemble includes François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., Callan Potter, Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh. The show comes from award-winning writer-director-producer Jacob Tierney and is based on Rachel Reid's Game Changer book series.

How big is it?

Big enough that the numbers are doing a lot of the talking. 'Heated Rivalry' is Crave's most-watched original series to date. HBO Max jumped in to distribute the show in the U.S. and Australia shortly before the Season 1 debut in November, and in the U.S. it landed as one of the service's top five scripted debuts this year.

Where things stand right now

Season 1 runs six episodes, with the finale set for December 26, 2025. Season 2 is confirmed and coming to HBO Max. And thanks to the leads being contracted for three seasons — even though only two are officially greenlit — Season 3 feels less like a long shot and more like a when, not if, provided the audience sticks around.
