The Justice Gang is suiting up again.

Superman 2 is officially a thing, and Hawkgirl wasted no time basically saying, yeah, I am coming back. That was fast. Also, the title? It is a good one.

On September 3, James Gunn and his Superman leads David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult all hit post at the same time to reveal the sequel: it is called Man of Tomorrow, and it is locked for theaters on July 9, 2027. They also dropped three new pieces of art for the movie, which is a very Gunn way to announce a sequel. Confirmed for now: Corenswet is back in the cape, and Hoult returns as Lex Luthor — power armor and all. No official plot yet.

Minutes later, Isabela Merced — yes, Hawkgirl, and yes, The Last of Us star — re-shared Gunn's Superman 2 art on her Instagram Story and wrote a very pointed:

see you soon

A screenshot of that Story has been making the rounds on Twitter via the Home of DCU account, which framed it as Merced confirming she will reprise Hawkgirl in Man of Tomorrow. The tweet also reiterated the release date and was stamped September 3, 2025. The short version: she did not spell out a contract, but if that is not a wink that Hawkgirl is in the sequel, I do not know what is.

Quick bit of context for anyone who missed the inside baseball during Superman 2025: fans nicknamed Superman's helper squad the Justice Gang. It started with Merced's Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific. By the end of the movie, Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho had joined up too. Fun dynamic, easy to root for, and hopefully not a one-and-done.

  • Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced): basically teased her return with that IG Story
  • Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion): no comment so far
  • Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi): shared a news item and added, Where does the story go next? Can't wait to see it.
  • Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan): also staying quiet (for now)

As for what Man of Tomorrow is actually about, Gunn is keeping the official synopsis hidden for now. But the new art he shared sure looks like a Superman/Lex Luthor team-up situation — which is a spicy choice given, you know, Lex being Lex. If that is the play, I am very curious how the Justice Gang feels about Clark working shoulder-to-shoulder with the guy who tried to flatten him in an armored suit.

Worth noting: this all sits under Gunn's DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters banner, so the connective tissue is the point. Whether that means the full Justice Gang returns or we just get Hawkgirl popping in for some aerial backup, the table is clearly being set.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow lands in theaters on July 9, 2027. Mark it, because DC just planted a very big flag on that date.
