Hate Pastor Jeff? He's Not the Most Annoying Young Sheldon Character, Fans Say
This character's constant frown is nothing but irritating to the audience.
Summary
- Pastor Jeff used to be the most hated character on YS.
- Fans of the sitcom don't like the attitude of the new member of the Cooper family.
- At the same time, there are many excuses for her behavior.
Like any other comedy show, Young Sheldon is full of annoying characters that provide a lot of comic relief for the audience. For example, Sheldon himself is perhaps one of the most irritating people on the show, but he makes it even more entertaining with his antics and shenanigans. Fortunately, Sheldon is not the most annoying character on YS.
Until recently, Pastor Jeff was considered the most obnoxious person on Young Sheldon. Entitled, squeamish, and sleazy, he somehow deserved to be universally hated by viewers. Now, however, it seems that someone else is drawing the most ire from fans.
A Cooper-to-Be
Apparently, the mother of Georgie's baby and his fiancée, Mandy, has replaced Pastor Jeff as the most annoying character, which is surprising since Mandy and Georgie's love arc is one of the most popular in Young Sheldon. Still, it seems that the audience is annoyed with Mandy's behavior in Season 7.
After the tornado destroyed Meemaw's house, Mandy, Georgie, and Cece moved back into the Cooper house while Sheldon and Mary were in Germany. In most of the scenes with Mandy, she was cranky and grumpy and seemed annoyed with everything and everyone. While the Coopers did their best to adjust to the new circumstances with teenage Missy at the helm of the entire household, Mandy just rolled her eyes at everything, which many fans found ungrateful and off-putting.
A Great Excuse?
Sure, Mandy's crankiness can be excused since she has a little baby on her hands and maybe is constantly thinking about how her life could have been different if she had not been impregnated by Georgie. But neither excuse seems to stand up to criticism. First of all, Mandy has a lot of people helping her with the baby, despite the fact that she is the primary caretaker. Also, it seemed like her regrets were addressed and resolved in Season 6 when she finally accepted things as they were and sort of proposed to Georgie.
Maybe Mandy has some sort of postpartum depression. But that doesn't make the character any more sympathetic. On the contrary, it only makes her more entitled and annoying in the eyes of the audience.
This is especially sad in light of the news about a spin-off focusing on Mandy and Georgie's relationship. After all, what kind of show would have an annoying main character? Oh, right! Young Sheldon does, so maybe it will actually fit in well with the overall narrative of the franchise.
Episode 5 of Season 7 of Young Sheldon will air tonight, March 14.
