At least, some of you do…

Fans of Harry Potter may well recognise Sam Clemmett, who plays the young Brimsley in the Bridgerton spin-off Queen Charlotte. But it won’t be because he appeared in any of the Harry Potter movies – or their prequel Fantastic Beasts series.

But Potterheads who watched a stage performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child may recognise the Norwich-born actor. Clemmett originated the role of Albus Severus Potter at The Palace Theatre in London’s West End between 2016 – 2017, and in New York’s Lyric Theatre in 2018 and 2019.

Those who didn’t see Clemmett in either of those theatre productions may still know his face as he’s been on the acting scene for over a decade and has appeared on stage and TV.

His acting debut came as Bill in an adaptation of Lord of the Flies at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. And his last stage role before landing the part of Albus Potter saw him play Tom in Wendy and Peter Pan at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Non-theatregoers might recognise his face from one of several TV roles. While Brimsley is his biggest part yet, Clemmett has already appeared in some popular shows, including Foyle’s War, daytime soap Doctors, Holby City and the Morse prequel Endeavour.

And he has experience of period drama, having played Luc in an episode of The Musketeers on the BBC.

In the Bridgerton spin-off, Clemmett takes on the role of the young Brimsley, the queen’s trusted and much-loved butler. Hugh Sachs returns as the older Brimsley in the show, which spans two time periods in the life of Queen Charlotte and her husband King George III.

The 29-year-old actor is clearly very comfortable in camera and is active on Instagram – posting plenty of photos of himself with his wife, Danarose who is a hairstylist and wig maker for TV shows, including Succession – and worked on the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Clemmett also likes to post pictures of the projects he’s working on – including stills from the shows and photos of himself and other cast members taken behind the scenes.

The six-part series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story may be the show that truly launches his career, so watch this space.
