The stoner icons of the 2000s are coming back. After 14 years of radio silence, Harold & Kumar 4 is officially in the works—with the original creators steering the ship.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the writers behind all three previous movies, are returning to write and direct. You might know them better these days as the minds behind Cobra Kai, which explains why their stock in Hollywood has never been higher. They're teaming up again with Josh Heald, their Cobra Kai co-creator, to produce the fourth installment.

Kal Penn and John Cho are expected to return as the world's most functional dysfunctional duo—but neither has signed on just yet. As for Neil Patrick Harris, who famously played an unhinged version of himself in the original trilogy, no word yet on whether he'll be riding a unicorn into this one too.

Plot details? Still unknown. But Kal Penn once floated the idea of Harold & Kumar in Space. Totally serious. And honestly, after surviving Guantanamo Bay, Christmas in 3D, and whatever the hell that waffle-bot was, orbiting a drive-thru sounds about right.

The real story here, though, is who's making it. Hurwitz and Schlossberg never lost the tone that made Harold & Kumar feel smarter than it looked. These movies were always more than just weed jokes—they skewered stereotypes, flipped buddy-comedy expectations, and somehow made a trip to White Castle feel mythic.

And with how cautious modern studio comedies have become, a fourth film might be exactly the kind of chaos we need. Whether they're trying to relive their youth, escape the suburbs, or just get a damn slider again, there's room for Harold & Kumar to grow up without growing boring.
