Gwyneth Paltrow Keeps Fans Guessing on Avengers: Doomsday Comeback
Marvel may be locking down Avengers: Doomsday casting, but Gwyneth Paltrow’s coy tease has fans betting Pepper Potts is suiting up for a comeback in Avengers 5.
Marvel is doing what Marvel does best: keeping Avengers: Doomsday on lockdown. But Gwyneth Paltrow just added fuel to the Pepper Potts rumor fire with a very deliberate non-answer that has fans reading between the lines.
So what did she say?
At The Hollywood Reporter's Women of Entertainment Gala, Entertainment Tonight's Deidre Behar asked Paltrow point-blank if Pepper is back for Avengers: Doomsday — a question framed around talk that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU with that film, but in a different capacity.
"We'll see."
That was it — followed by a grin, a pause, and a lip bite that screamed I know something I can't say. The moment quickly made the rounds on social, with fan account Avengers Updates sharing the clip on December 3, 2025.
Why this lands differently
Paltrow has already played Pepper Potts across seven MCU movies, almost always orbiting Tony Stark. Her last on-screen run as Pepper was Avengers: Endgame in 2019 — the same film that closed the book on Downey Jr.'s Iron Man. So even a tiny tease about Pepper in Avengers 5 will get attention, especially with the RDJ chatter in the background.
She's been nudging this door open for a while
- Earlier this year, she casually said she might pop up in another Marvel movie.
- More recently, she admitted she doesn't totally know what Pepper's place is in Doomsday, adding that she thinks she might be involved but isn't sure.
- Now we get "We'll see" with a knowing smile, which feels like as much of a yes as she can give without getting a Marvel snipers text.
Where the movie stands
Avengers 5 — titled Avengers: Doomsday — is set to be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is currently slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Marvel is still sitting on the full cast list, so until the studio makes it official, expect more winking and hedging from anyone even remotely connected to this thing.
Translation: the door is open for Pepper. Whether she walks through it is the part Marvel won't let anyone say out loud yet.
