Prime Video sets March for Young Sherlock, unleashing the first teaser for Guy Ritchie's new series.

Prime Video is going younger with Sherlock. A new series, fittingly titled 'Young Sherlock', is on the way, and yes, a teaser just dropped. Before we go down the rabbit hole: this is not a reboot or continuation of the 1985 movie 'Young Sherlock Holmes', and it is not connected to Guy Ritchie’s Robert Downey Jr. films. Different timeline, different canon, same detective.

What this version actually is

The show adapts Andrew Lane’s 'Young Sherlock' novels, which he kicked off in 2010 after seeing the heat around Charlie Higson’s 'Young James Bond' books. So think origin story with a YA tilt, but scaled up for Prime Video and guided by Guy Ritchie’s sensibilities.

The setup and the vibe

Prime is pitching this as a fast, irreverent spin on Sherlock’s early days. We’re in the 1870s, starting in Oxford and then bouncing overseas. Sherlock here is not the polished Baker Street legend; he’s a raw, slightly disgraced teenager who stumbles into a murder case that could land him in serious trouble. Solving it yanks him into a globe-hopping conspiracy that essentially forges the Sherlock he’ll become. The promise, per the streamer, is the wit and swagger people associate with Ritchie’s films, applied to a true origin story.

Ritchie is involved, but this is its own thing

Guy Ritchie directs the first two episodes and executive produces the full first season. He’s been down the Holmes road before with the 2009 and 2011 Downey Jr. movies, but this series is a clean slate and not tied to those films.

'In Young Sherlock we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before. We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.'

Release plan

All eight episodes of season one land at once on March 4, 2026, streaming exclusively on Prime Video in 240-plus countries and territories. Long runway to release, but the teaser is out now to start the drumbeat.

Who is in it and who is making it

  • Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays Sherlock Holmes.
  • Supporting cast: Donal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth.
  • Guy Ritchie directs episodes 1 and 2 and executive produces all eight.
  • Series created for television and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill.
  • Executive producers also include Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson.
  • Co-executive producers: Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson.
  • Motive Pictures led physical production.

Bottom line

'Young Sherlock' is a separate timeline built from the Andrew Lane books, with Ritchie helping set the tone up front. Teaser now, full drop March 4, 2026. If you want a brash, younger Sherlock stumbling into his first massive case in 1870s Oxford before he ever sees Baker Street, that is exactly what this is.
