GTA 6 One-Year Countdown Begins as Fans Bet on Another Delay
It was meant to be out by now; instead, the window has slipped and anticipation is boiling over.
GTA 6 is somehow both right around the corner and still a year away. Again. If your internal calendar broke somewhere between the last trailer and the last delay, you are not alone.
The moving target
Here is the clean version of a very messy schedule:
- Originally, GTA 6 was expected to be out by late 2025.
- Then it slipped to a firm date: May 26, 2026.
- That slid again to November 19, 2026.
- And now, as of November 19, 2026, the goalpost has moved one more time, with the new plan landing roughly a year from today. No, you are not imagining the deja vu.
Fans are split between disbelief, superstition, and patience
Over on the GTA 6 subreddit, the mood is exactly what you would expect when a mega-release keeps scooting down the calendar. Some folks are just now realizing we should have been playing already, based on those earlier dates. Others are convinced that a year from now we will still be talking about it being a year away. A few swear that every time people start a countdown, the date slips again, so maybe everyone should stop poking the bear.
There is also a more optimistic crowd reminding everyone that Red Dead Redemption 2 took two delays on the chin before dropping and dominating. The hope is that GTA 6 is following that same longer-cook, bigger-payoff path. Reasonable! But we have to wait to find out.
What the bosses are saying (and not saying)
"I'm highly confident on the new date."
That is Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick on this latest schedule. For context: he was confident about the last one too, and this time there has also been fresh worker unrest over layoffs in the mix, which was not hanging over prior dates. So, confidence noted; reality pending.
Zelnick has also been out there saying the broader industry is trending toward PC while consoles are not going anywhere. That tracks with how big games roll now, but he still has not actually confirmed if GTA 6 itself is coming to PC. Read into that however you want, but as of right now, it is a big shrug on platform specifics beyond consoles.
Where this leaves us
We are back in the one-year-out holding pattern. Maybe this is the final lap; maybe we are in for one more shuffle. Either way, until the thing is actually on a store page with a download button, all we have is patience, a very busy subreddit, and a publisher that swears this time they mean it.
